So you would get stuck anyways. I think in Red you could also get stuck with no way of completing the game, if you spent all your money and got rid of your items and beat all trainers you can before getting Surf from Safari Zone. In Blue you could at least get Meowth with Pay Day.

So yeah, hopelessly stuck.

To get stuck in the way you describe would be unlikely to happen on accident as it's a lot of effort, but it's possible.

I don't get why people would think this has anything to do with IVs. It's based on a jack o lantern so it makes sense to have something to do with Halloween. There's just no reason for it to have a random reference to IVs.

i remember hearing in red/blue theres a trainer with only a ditto and if you battle her with nothing but a ditto on your team theres no way to win the battle or leave it as transform coppied the amount of PP the enmy pokemon has on its moves as well so youre just stuck in a cycle of transforms forever

This is due to their ability Shadow Tag preventing switchouts, as well as damage done through Struggle will quickly be replenished by Shell Bell.
