Name that one thing you do in every Pokemon game regardless of how dumb it is.

For me someone on my team has to have Hyper Beam, I have loved that move since I originally played Red. Thank God for Pixilate making it so I can kinda use it again.

I have to nickname every member of my team.
Sometimes I imagine how they would interact with each other outside of battle, based on their natures and characteristics. Then I remember that that's retarded and I have to put the game down for a bit.

Why are all the other balls so goddamn ugly? Only a few of the unique ones like heal ball and aqua are fine too.

Every single member of my team has to be of a different color. Even if a Pokemon's secondary color matches someone else's primary color (or mainly if they're color "feel" is too similar), I don't use them.

I used Typhlosion and Parasect in Soul Silver, and it still bugs me to this day.

I have two teambuilding rules:
1 No legendaries except for on a designated exclusively ubers team
2. No pokemon on a team may share the same typing, either primary or secondary.

And that's it. I have a few other teambuilding guidelines that I like to follow if I can, but it would be basically impossible for me to make a team I liked actually using all of these strictly:
1. Have each pokemon holding a different item (already necessary for the battle spot)
2. No pokemon with the same move as another
3. No pokemon of the same body shape
4. No pokemon of the same color

not long ago when i replayed FR, emerald, SS, Pt and black i made some rules:
- to only use pokemon i never used before
-use only use pokes from that generation ( i allow using new evos as long as they're from an old poke i never used before like mismagius or roserade, and only if its at least the second run i do of the game)
-nickname the main story team

What's funny is I don't care about gender when in my in-game team, or for anything else for that matter. But since I have the choice when breeding, and since I'm going all the way to getting a pentaperfect one, I will only be satisfied with a male hatched Pokemon.

Another thing I do when playing through the main story of the game is all my Pokemon have to be of the same level. When a Pokemon goes one level higher than the rest of the team, I simply keep him outside of battles entirely until the rest of the team also catches up to that level.

This also translates into me usually using Pokemon disadvantageous to the Gym type with the Gym's regular trainers. That way, the Pokemon at a disadvantage earn more experience and compensate for when I get to the Gym leader and I actually use a Pokemon with an advantage, again, keeping the levels as even as possible.

When I'm playing through a game, I always like to stick with Pokemon that 'tough it out'.

Like in SS, I had an under-leveled Beedrill that delivered the final blow to Silver's team at one point, and I kept it with me the rest of the way.

I know it probably had decent IVs or something that I wasn't realizing at the time. But I was keen on not getting rid of it because omg you saved me.

I actually felt this way about a Luvdisc, too- and at the moment, I primarily use Luvdiscs to Surf, because the image I get in my head is just great.

Once I beat the elite 4 and champ, I start a new game.
Might do the post game stuff once, like the kanto gyms in silver, or beat the league again when they level up, or catch whatever mewtwo analog there is, but most of the fun is gone by that point.
The next team has to have completely different pokemon.
