>>19802419That would imply they had the full intention of rebooting the series from scratch with no backwards compatibility. Nothing has been said on this matter. Technically, things have happened to warrant a complete redefinition of the entire system, and the materials were given to suggest this would be a new starting point. Regardless, they didn't SAY that was their intention. They could've just wanted to give a variety of pokemon without resorting to making a bazillion new ones. All gens redefine the pokemon world somehow. The second gen, however, seemed to be the only other one that warranted a massive retcon such as this one requires. Why they feel this way, I don't know. The Natures present in the third gen were always implied to be present in pokemon, as personalities, although now they are an actual game mechanic. The Abilities, however, were only something that had been present in the TCG before, although derived from the lore on pokemon itself. If it was always their intention the third gen was at the same time as the first, then a retcon wouldn't be necessary, other than a technicality of what happened in FR/LG with everything now answering to third gen mechanics rather than the first. It would be moot given the scheme of things. However, D/P did something that has been considered unceremonious, but could still be questioned: gender differences. Technically, they have not yet been placed in the timeline before the second gen. Is anyone going to question their presence in the events of the third gen? NO!!!!!!! And yet everyone treats junk like Mega evos and Fairies and who knows what else as an abomination simply because they said it did not occur until now. True, types, breeding, and new evos are more significant than an aesthetic change, or are we going to argue the matter that pokemon don't look the same now, too? Is every change going to bother you until you become a mass of pixels yourself, left to rot in a forgotten world?
