Most likely, you're talking about the turn you mega-evolved and were expecting to outspeed due to Mega-Pinsir's base speed of 105. (?)
During a turn in a Pokemon battle, you are aware many things take place and all must occur in an order that is programmed into the game. Mega evolution occurs (during the turn) AFTER the game has already determined the order in which the two opposing Pokemon will make their move. So on the turn of mega-evolution, the Poke's original base speed is what is used to calculate attack order, not the speed of the mega. All other stats are updated to the mega's stats prior to damage calculations, though, so your Mega attack, defense, etc are in play on that turn.

I can only think of Sweepers who set up to sweep, but SE coverage moves would cover that.
The only time someone took advantage of my AssVest user in this tournament to set up for example was J Sal and his Mega Fish, which didn't even go Mega until he felt safe.
Using this example and running numbers, replacing Empoleon who would allow for Gyrados to set up and kill him, with Goodra. Goodra would OHKO the fish with Thunderbolt, and if he decided to Mega and DD first turn instead of Ice Fang (assuming he had it) there's a window for him to fail to one-shot me and die to a 2nd thunderbolt. This is with a physical attacker, not even using a Special Attacker as an example.
So, setting up isn't exactly the MOST viable for sweepers and phasers exist for removing stalling threats that set up.
