To be fair, Cheren can be pretty tough if your team is too big at the beginning of BW2. There is a very limited amount of experience points around before the 1st gym, and if you mismanage those points it can take forever fighting wild pokemon to get on his level. Audino grinding doesn't get "turned on" until AFTER you beat him, so you're stuck with the scrap exp from wild Lillipups etc.

The only Psychic types you had at that point, if any, was just Drowzee and Kadabra if you managed to catch an Abra. I think the way Wrap and Constrict worked in Gen 1 was that if her pokemon were faster, she'd just kill you slowly and painfully, too.

I'd say that both Blaine and Giovanni are easier. At that point, you doubtlessly have a water type, and can just mow them down. Unlike later gens, they have literally nothing to counter water.

She was weak to psychic, flying, fire and ice. There were Kadabra and Drowzee/Hypno, you could get a Growlie/Vulpix from the grass just next to Celadon, you could evolve your Eevee to Flareon, or just kill them with your Pidgeot/Fearow. She was easy.

Theres basically nothing at that point in the game that can take on wattson easily if you chose treecko except makuhita. So it can be tough on people building specific teams or nuzlockes that start with treecko.

Also Aron is terrible because of its shitty Sp.Def. I just used it in a bait-and-switch with Grovyle against Voltorb to catch the Self-Destruct. It didn't quite work because it used Rollout instead, but same shit really.

And thus my point is proven. Your options are so limited that you're forced to capture specific pokemon.

And if you're doing a nuzlocke you are in very much so, plenty of danger at this gym.

I'm not saying its super difficult through normal means, but he's a tougher challenge than your average gym leader if you picked grovyle.
