Froslass is based on a Yuki Onna, the origin of this demon is about a girl dying in a snow forest.
I don't really know about Glalie though, it's an Oni but they usually don't have anything related with now.

How about Gyarados (Water/Flying) into Mega Gyarados (Water/Dark)?
I know all about the story of Magikarp and Gyarados, the karp that becomes an "almost-dragon", the secondary Flying-type explains this. But why on Earth is the Mega part-Dark? Why? God it's so stupid. It didn't even need a Mega Evolution. Also, turns Fighting and Bug resistances into weaknesses, looses Ground immunity and gains Fairy weakness... For what? Ghost and Dark resistance? Not so strong Electric weakness? It doesn't even have a decent STAB move for it.

Glalies the odd one out to me, especially seeing it came before froslass. I dont see much connection, besides it all being jap folklore, and at that point you could really put any two pokemon together and say they are similar enough to be evolutions. Oni as far as i know have nothing to do with ice, and follows none of the design elements of snorunt besides the teeth. Snorunt and froslass i can accept because its both folklore to do with ice elements.

gyarados is a magikarp that gained the body and strength of a dragon but not a dragon's abilities

a water/dragon type in gen 1 would have been unbalanced as fuck, having solid offensive stab while only being weak to dragon - except that dragon rage was the only dragon move then.

flying-type in gen 1 is used for the two pseudo-dragons introduced at that point, charizard and gyarados, both for balance reasons.

also, gyarados didn't even learn bounce until hg/ss was released

The thing is constantly described as always being pissed off enough to burn everything it sees right the fuck down to ashes. It's basically an extremely common and antagonistic kaiju in the Pokemon world. The Dark subtyping is far more appropriate than Flying ever was on Gyarados, and puts it in line with other wantonly destructive 'mons like Tyranitar and Hydreigon.

The real crime is that it wasn't made Water/Dark in Gen II, nor was it ever given Crunch.

The difference is that you can still talk about Pokemon outside of /vp/. You can post a thread about the Pokemon anime on /a/, and no one will bat an eye.
Try making a pony thread on /co/ and see what happens. Turns out /vp/ and /mlp/ were created to solve two very different sets of problems.

Karrablast gets Shelmets armour and becommes an Escavalier. You can clearly see that it's a Karrablast sitting inside of it. Shelmet is just an Accelgor with armour surrounding it.

I dont give a Raticate's butt if these are supposed to refer to a Myth or tadpoles and frogs. Dragonair could have had such an amazing Blue Dragon snake evolution, but no, they put a small, yellow, small winged dragon thing. It's nice, but not something a Dragonair should evolve to!
