Question regarding White Forest/Black City in BW2

Are these areas still designed so as to force me to rush through the game in order to not lose out on content?

I was horrified when I discovered this game mechanic in BW and will not play BW 2 if it contains anything that is even remotely similar. What is even more annoying that there does not seem to be any information detailing the changes made to these areas on the standard websites, other than that they now contain 'battle towers'.

nope, you're okay. they don't use that mechanic anymore iirc, as the main feature to these are now their respective battle towers.

I have friends; I just don't have friends who play Pokemon.

Besides, the feature isn't terrible because it requires you to have friends to play with. It is bad because it encourages rushing in a Pokemon game.

No, if you have friend that play Pokémon you don't need to rush the game. The game comes with some "free" people for your city/forest, but the real method to get them is connecting to other carts.

You need to read what I tell you. I said that the feature was terrible because it encouraged rushing, not because it 'needed' to be rushed. The game encourages rushing because it allows you to complete more of it by yourself if you progress more quickly. This is bad, regardless of whether it can be amended by playing with other people later on.

No, it encourages the use of the Entralink. Pokémon has always been about socializing and they add features to encourage that, like Spiritomb in gen IV. Some idiots don't wanna do it and opt for rushing the game instead. The fact that those people aren't there when you arrive after a nomrla playthrough is on purpose so you get off your ass and connect your game to other's.

I'm going to clarify the above because I suspect that you might be a bit slow and not follow me unless I do so. What I am saying is that even if it is true that the feature encourages the use of the 'Entralink' in an attempt to make the game more socially involved, it may still be true (indeed it is) that the game encourages rushing for the reasons I have mentioned. The two are not mutually exclusive, and as such your presented objection is actually completely irrelevant to the claim I am making.
