Love my Torkoal, works like a charm. Not the best pokemon, but he's good at what he does. I run a support set with him though more than the normal set.

Well the weakness to Ground, Rock, and Water makes it questionable but I'd definitely call it an underrated defensive typing. People often don't recognize the amount of resists fire has. Fire, Fairy, Grass, Steel, Bug, Ice. Definitely some nice ones in there but those 3 big weaknesses make it tough to call it "great."

By no means do I disagree, I just wish it wasn't weak to 3 of the most common attacking types in the game.

Also their should be more strictly defensive fire types. Can't think of any good ones beside Tortoise Oven

Weavile was ruined by gen 6
It got yet another weakness and its usefulness as a dragon killer was made less valuable.

Quagsire wasn't directly affected that badly. Still RU and still outclassed by tons of other bulky water types.

I used to run an eviolite Sycther with swords dance and roost that worked well for a while, but it's typing is just not good for what it needs to do. Bad coverage and it's never good being 4x weak to rock. All it really needs is a better techniton option than Bug Bite

Wasn't actually. Chance with a good rod in the route before goldenrod.
First thing I'd always do as a kid was catch one as soon as i got the good rod.
I really liked it but nevrr used it because i thought non evolving non legendaries were bad and i usually had 1-2 water types anyway.

Feraligatr has an amazing movepool and decent stats, but its still not anything special competitively.

It'd probably make vp hate it but giving it a charizard-x style mega with tough claws/strong jaw, 135-145attack, 99spa, 88-98speed and some extra bulk would be amazing.

I use torkoal in VGC. protect/shell smash/heat wave/rock slide w/ white herb. pretty decent mixed attacker. not the best but viable imo. i like it a lot.

Using it as a scarfed scout works decently enough

Sniper
jolly, max attack and speed
x-scissor, u-turn, drill run, knock off (or poison jab/brick break if you don't have access to tutors)

I've seen people suggestion sniper/focus energy sets but honestly its not bulky enough to run that sort of thing.
