Why are VGC so jews? I mean Smogon has a plethora of information about the threats in the metagame, the viability of them and the common sets in an easy to find strategy pokedex. Sites like Nugget Bridge instead have long ass war stories that one needs to dissect in order to check the current metagame.

Effort means shit. If there's an easier way to do something you should take that route. VGC seems to be to much work for not enough reward. There's no big cash prizes that would compensate the fact that you not only need to breed the right mon with the correct moves, stats, nature but also have to create teams from scratch because of the sparse documentation that metagame has. Smogon OU is played on a simulator where you can test all kinds of teams quite fast.

Smogon can be played at the comfort of your home, also it doesnt require to much time investment to get into the metagame. You learn as you go. While the VGC requires a huge amount of legwork to even get in.

If VGC tournaments had big cash prizes I would get more serious into it. But as it's stand it's just kiddie tournament for autistic manchildren and for depressed white parents to take their future man childs.

Playing on a simulator is just a fun thing to do like playing a video game on your own or with friends online. It takes no time to set up a team and test things out and see if you got what it takes to be good. VGC are official tournaments that take a huge amount of work to get in and play. You first need to build the team IRL, go to a convention center and wait your turn to play and hope your team can advance in order to win the grand prize of a whopping $3k scholar ship as the grand prize in a world wide tournament. For fuck sakes the amount of time you need to invest in order to reach there is much more than some shitty scholarship and some stupid prizes. They need to put real hard cash in order to build a real competitive scene.

Go to NG. Click the pokemon button at the top. Click the pokemon you're interested in. Now you've got a bunch of team reports that include that pokemon.

These are often more useful than single analyses because VGC is much more reliant on how your pokemon works with the rest of your team

There's multiple articles on how to get good at Texas hold'em. In Poker everyone has equal opportunity to hold good cards. In Pokemon you need to build a good team before you even compete.

Also competing for real money is way different than competing for a shitty prize.

this is a dumb mentality and it's largely why VGC isn't as popular as Smogon. you don't need to give away top secret obscure strategies that will win you tournaments, you just need to give general movesets and strategies that everyone knows as a gateway to get into the metagame

I never got into VGC for years for this reason, it's very inaccessible with the lack of guides and strategies etc. the only reason I eventually did is because XY cartridge battles are fun and OU was unplayable a few months ago, so I grinded it out to learn myself

Every respectable players knows what movesets should be used, at least the basis, the most important thing are the EV spreads, unlike the ladder in singles here every spread is specific and almost exclusive for each season.

I'm sure they have synergy and basic guides in any case. The editing comes to players regardless, otherwise you'll just appear to be predictable like those players with the copypasta teams from rmt threads and such, basically losing to not standard yet viable sets and spreads.

According to the Nugget Bridge founders, they avoided doing a Smogon-like strategy dex because they want people to realise that team synergy is worth a lot more than individual sets being good.

That's bullcrap. Smogon has team sugestion for certain sets. Each Pokemon has standard sets that works. They could do a strategy dex based more on teams if that was the case.

The whole point is that the strategy dex is a nice streamlined guide to bring new people into the game. Learning by example is far more valuable than learning through trial by fire. Half of competitive battling (arguably more) is about team building so just telling to "learn it themselves" is extremely naive and scare off new players, which in turn makes the meta stale because there's no new influx of people taking a fresh look at the meta.

So no, unless you're taking that stupid "don't accommodate for new players" stance then just telling them to figure out team building from a few (general at best) guides is a shit argument.

Most of the Imprison users blocks Protect, another dedicated Imprisoners like Chandelure are used to block one or both of Protect and Trick Room.
In a Meta where switching is a riskier move, using Protect and trying to predict is capital, a Pokémon unable to use Protect is forced to switch if threatened, so it's teammate it's open for a full attack.

The metagame shifts drastically and rapidly. The two most important things in VGC are play skill and metagame knowledge, and you won't get either by reading old articles on VGC. Tournament reports from the most recent tournaments are the best window into the metagame as well as gicing a few tricks at the same time.

The other thing to consider is that analysing pokemon singly has far less value in Doubles. You can't get much effectiveness from an article on just one mon at a time.
