What do I think of Machamp? He's awesome in my book. As for my favorite fighting type, I'd have to go with Hitmonchan. It was great for my play through of Red as a kid and still fun to use with an assault vest now.

Machamp is a boss. Unfortunately, Gamefreak has since favored other newer fighters more, which is sad, really. He still has his niche, but is generally outclassed by his old drunk clown rival, No Guard or not.

I started a thread on fighting types a week ago, I don't think vp is fond of fighting types much.

They serve very different functions. I use Chesnaught as a physical tank, and it can take so much punishment. Plus its HA allows it to wall certain pokemon, notably mega-venusaur.

I picked Chespin purely because I thought my friends would want Fennekin and Froakie, and Chespin would make for a good trade leverage.

Machamp may be UU now but he can still wreck shit up, especially with Assault Vest. And don't forget he was the key player used by champion Enigne in the 2013 Senior Division World Championship, so the champ is still relatively relevant.

That's true. Machamp does get crippled with status. (Before you proceed, be warned that I'm a karenfag scrub that still needs to git gud.)

However, with the onslaught of fairies, I find the extra special defense to be really useful. AV means Machamp could stand against pretty much most psychic/ghost threats, even LO Alakazam (not sure about Mega), and survive Megatard-Y's solar powered attacks, then hit back and OHKO with Stone Edge. I suppose it all depends on the support he has.

That's true. It's also worth mentioning that Lum Berry really takes Swagger users by surprise, since you lose the confusion but keep the +2 attack. I always lead with Champ when I see that the opponent has Klefki, for example. Depending on their spread, it can pretty often OHKO with Dynamic Punch.

Or did you mean my opponents knocking off the vest? If so, Lum Berry could also be knocked off. Additionally, I doubt that many would dare use it against a powerful Fighting type that resists Dark, no? Machamp ma not be bulky, but he's not frail either. If opponents are knocking off his AV he gets one free pass to potentially OHKO an opponent. Then you can maybe pull withdraw him.

And yet they manage to have official tournaments every year. I prefer not having a council of nerds try to decide what Pokemon I can and can't beat. I get what they're trying to do, but don't come at me with "that's banned!" when those rules only apply to simulators and not the actual game.

Good? Why should it be up to a few fans to tell us what can and can't be used? They're thinking about banning Baton Pass chains now-- did you know that?

I'm not usually one to say that they ban what they can't beat, but between the complex bans and one-by-one losing Megas to the banhammer, it's starting to feel less and less like playing Pokemon and more like Smogon's own fan game.

back when Gen V was still in the works, I was hoping for a Machamp counterpart. I was wondering what its theme would be, and if it would be great to use alongside the original champ. But when Conkeldurr was revealed, my heart sank. That 140 Attack and maxed physical bulk and minimum special attack easily outclassed Machamp's stat spread. I'm just thankful GF did not give No Guard to the clown as well. Guess I should be careful what I wish for next time.

I know this sounds stupid but a man can dream--how about, Hyper Guard? Like No Guard but boosts defenses by, say, 25%? or Completely blocks off attacks from other Megas.

I don't want him to be broken, though. And I hope the Mega won't ruin his design. So far, the only Megas I like are Sceptile's and Swampert's.

He would be broken if he kept no guard on top of getting an attack boost like that. Even a 50+ attack boost with no guard is broken.

Sheer force + more attack is because hisbdex entry says that if he loses his belt he becomes unstoppable.

So no matter how competitively useful it is, it makes sense.

I remember I used to have so much trouble against Wally's dad in Emerald, until I brought in the Croak. Dry Skin made that Milotic all but useless, since it would always screw me over with its Hypnosis. The rest of my team could handle the Dragonite and Rhyperior, but I remember one time Croak actually managed to solo him.

It would be better for him to become Fighting/Steel or Fighting/Poison so that he could take neutral damage from fairy-types, wouldn't it?

Plus, with Fighting/Steel, he could be take on a metallic sheen and become a knight to better compliment Mega Gardevoir's princess motif.

Actually, I prefer it over Machamp due to construction worker undertones. As much as I hate gen5's power creep, its counterparts to older, recognizable Pokemon are solid, useful designs.

Mienshao gets usually a lot of affection due to being basically the Gardevoir of fighting types, if Pixiv searches are to be followed.
