I decided to make XY fun by throwing my starter away and wonder trading to get some cool pokes to start out with

I made sure to breed them and hatch them so they didn't get bonus EXP, and then I used them as a team all the way to the elite four.

There were random trainers that gave me a better run for my money than the Kalos gym leaders. I've only had one pokemon faint in a gym leader (Grants Arorus hit me with the critcal takedown) battle and I've had three playthroughs.

Underage please go. I used to have trouble with Clair and Norman as a kid because I didn't know shit about anything. Then I later replayed the games and realized that none of the Gym Leaders offer any kind of challenge if you have even the slightest idea of what you're doing.

Haha that hawluche sweeped my team twice.
Hardest trainer battle in the game.
Many of the fighting type trainers with hawluchas, sawks and throhs were hard early on cause they all packed rock slides earthquakes paybacks and shit. No switch was safe.

Gen 2: Besides the usual whitney's miltank with rollout thing, Claire. Fuck Kingdra, and thank god for Freeze-Dry.
Gen 3: Super Saiyan Broly, I guess. I just had to level my tailow some more.
Gen 4: I didn't have much trouble with Sinnoh. I soloed Infernape, so the only gyms that were mildly difficult were Fantina and Crasher Wake.
Gen 5: Elesa, but only because I didn't have a decent ground type.

I recall using a sandstorm team (rock, ground, steel).

It was things like Armaldo, Lucario, Magneton, Torterra and Metagross, but all other them were lower level by the time I was at Mylene in Platinum.

Her fucking Fighting types wrecked my shit constantly, I ended up having to evolve my Drifloon just to stand a chance.

4 of us got the games, and played them at my place, and at this stage we were all at about the same place (2 of the fuckers shot ahead, 2 of us took our time and explored), and we all had a bit of a problem with this battle, probably just bad typings/moves, but 3 of us managed to get through, and into Reflection Cave. Eventually, the 4th guy just kind of shouted, and we weren't sure what had happened.

Turns out he had lost a few times to these guys, and was sick of it.

We may have proceeded to give him shit about it, and nearly reduced him to tears, but my point is that these 2 were the hardest battle in the game for us (or at least him)

The only Gym Leaders I found hard were like this:

Gen I: Sabrina (didn't have any good Pokemon to beat Alakazam), Misty in Yellow (Starmie) and Koga in Yellow (that goddamn Venomoth)

Gen II: Koga (yet again)

Gen III: Wattson (had no Ground-types), Phoebe (that Dusclops) and Flannery (that Torkoal)

Gen IV: Fantina (Gengar was faster than everyone on my team)

Gen V: Lenora (that Herdier), Elesa and that damn Emolga (fixed that in B2 by trading over a Drillbur that had access to Hone Claws and Rock Slide) Drayden and Iris (in B2 because of that Haxorus spamming Dragon Dance)

Gyms are still trash but random trainers and grunts are far above normal.

Also; gotta be Grant for me. Tyrunt is actually somewhat difficult because it hits so hard and Grant's levels are pretty high.

Only Winona and Wallace had more than 3 pokemon. Winona had 4 and Wallace had a full team of 6 though. I hope they increase the amount of pokemon gym leaders have though.

I remember a few good trainers who had full teams or 4-5 pokemon in routes though. Those actually felt like a battle rather than a nuisance.
