>>19944022>The rule only prohibits illegally modifying pokemon or itemsThe ball a Pokémon is caught in is part of its data, just likes moves, ability, etc.
>it has no effect on gameplayThe rules don't mention anything about affecting gameplay or giving an advantage, only artificial tampering.
>The rule doesn't include ball mods as prohibitedBut it does, as it's a modification of the Pokémon. Now, you could make the argument that the offspring of a hacked parent is legal (since the rules only mention direct tampering), but this would have to also include unreleased hidden abilities. Whether they provide an advantage is irrelevant since again, the rules say nothing about that. A Dream Ball on Aegislash is just as legal or illegal as Sheer Force Feraligatr; both the ball and ability are variables in a Pokémon's data. Variables that can't have those values without tampering.
You can also argue that illegal balls SHOULD be allowed since unlike unreleased abilities they don't give an advantage. But you can't argue that the rules as they are currently worded make a distiction between the two. If you think Dream Ball Aegislash should be allowed, the rules need to be reworded to reflect that. As it stands, either only direct hacking itself is forbidden and all illegal values are allowed if not directly hacked, or all illegal values are forbidden even if bred for. You can't have it both ways.
