Retconning moves. EV and IV training was highly difficult before Gen 6, and I am happy that they made these features more accessible to players, along with adding the online ladders, to make competitive play a legitimately obtainable dream for many trainers. That being said, one thing that really rubs me the wrong way is how Gamefreak "nerfed" so many moves by reducing the amount of Pokemon that get them.
Take Excadrill for example. Name me one legitimate reason why this Pokemon should not get access to the move Iron Head. The Pokemon is a steel/ground mole, for God's sake, and he is wearing a helmet made of fucking iron! It actually makes less sense for him not to get the move. Stealth Rocks I can maybe understand them removing, but Iron Head? That is truly fucking bizarre, and almost as jarring to me as when they took away Super Fang from Sharpedo (along with Brine) after Gen 4. Seriously, you are going to let Raticate keep the move, but not let the half-shark half-torpedo with "jaws that can tear apart steel" keep it? Unbelievable.
What's more, this kind of bullshit also creates a kind of black market for Pokemon that are created illegally so as to posses the moves they would have had in previous gens. I can't even begin to count the number of Hyper Voice Sylveons I run into on ladder. If the moves are what keep certain Pokemon competitive, then fucking let them have the damn moves. What's worse is that these Pokemon are actually banned in most tournaments, yet are permissable in the ladder. Don't just give them the moves and then tell us next generation, "Sorry, you'll have to re-breed Pokemon A because it has moves which are illegal this gen." That is fucking bullshit, and it encourages cheating for people that want to ladder climb.
