Why isn't she just a permanent evolution?! Mawile deserved one, I hate using single stage Pokemon but I love this thing right here so much...

Because Game Freak really wanted to populate gen 6's roster with their new mega evolutions. Mega evolution as a concept is fairly interesting, and I think they really wanted to push it this gen, even if they gave certain mons megas when they should have proper evolutions. But the way I think about it is that if they didn't get a mega this gen, they probably weren't going to to get an evolution for another few gens. I'm happy with the megas.

At least it benefits from having the weaker form via Intimidate and they gave it an extremely good ability to compensate.

Shit like Mega Banette is what definitely should have been a regular evolution (slightly nerfed if necessary).

Could have been cool.

At the very least, it would not have been as broken as Eviolite Sableye. GF sort of backed themselves into a corner with Eviolite and Mega forms are how they got out of it (while also giving relevance to former shitmons like Charizard and Scizor.)

I'm fine with mega mawhile, the real problem is mega bannete, since bannete's counterpart, dusclops, has an actual evo.

I don't like how mega evos are a replacement for normal cross generational evolutions.
