>>19952633Mewtwo's been my favorite pokemon since the very first gen. I find both of his mega's to be so.. middling.
I don't mind splitting into 2, but both mega's have something really critical that irks me about them. Y is way too small, and doesn't work well with the whole strongest pokemon idea that Mewtwo began with. I realize they're likely going with the whole "atrophied body due to superior mental abilities" trope, but that really rubs off as having less presence.
On the other hand, X has the physical presence that's fitting of Mewtwo (also loving the shoulder pieces, really adds to the "ultimate" feel of mewtwo), but his tiny stuck up tail and weird frog legs are offputting to the rest of the design.
The point was to put emphasis on the athletic prowess by having long legs and a shrunke and more compact tail, but in the end it just made him look like Kicks McGee.
Really, X can be summed up as a problem with proportions.
I feel like they had good ideas for the two of them, but went too far to push that in image and ended up taking away from the source material in the process. They could have easily run with "mental giant" and "apex fitness" without being as extreme as they did. They come off less as hyper powered versions, and more as split and spliced forms. Neither have that high end, ultimate appeal.
