The only "skills" in pokemon are predicting and planning, IMO. With Smogonbird, its important to know when to Brave Bird, when to U-Turn, what health you should try to keep it at, etc. It doesn't hit super hard, and it shatters if anything touches it. Its certainly more complex than GeoXern or ExtremeKiller or Shadow Ball spam Aegislash.

Talonflame doesn't really require that much more or less skill than any other OU Pokemon, you just need to know when/how to use it. That being said, the only people who ever complain about something like Talonflame are those that don't bother to put a check/counter to it on their team.

Least favourite member of my in-game team. I kept it in for being an effective fighter but I don't know, I didn't enjoy using it much. Kind of the opposite of my Ludicolo in Hoenn, shit fighter but I just liked it a lot.

I think at the end of the game it had surf, ice beam, nature power and something shit. So, hey, I wasn't far off. Once I get it up to Y, I'll be trying to make a team around it.

Honestly one of my favorite Pokemon. Flaming-arrow-themed Peregrine falcon? I'm sold. Plus he's super fast, has a cool, fitting ability, and is one of the few birdmons who is viable. Bro of the year for me.

We may have gotten fewer Pokemon this gen, but they put a lot of work into the designs they did make. I finally found my personal ace mon in Talonflame. Bird trainer's delight.

It's a fast, frail physical attacker with low attack that absolutely needs Adamant nature and choice band to deal significant amounts of damage. People thought "holy shit so OP pls ban" at the beginning of the gen but now people realize it's not very good. I mean it's still good, but it's nowhere near as good as people think cause it can ONLY revenge kill, and now many common sweepers (Mega Gyarados, Mega T-Tar, Mega X-zard, Mega Maw, Sand Rush Excadrill) are just too bulky/resist for it to consistently RK them. Furthermore, it has a shallow movepool and has a number of counters that it can't get around unless you use the gimmicky Natural Gift set, which reduces its over all effectiveness.

This has always been my preferred method of Talonflame use. Band is great as an all-purpose revenger, but SD can be pretty nice too. It should just never be deployed until late game when the hurt has been put on the opposing team. He forces plenty of switches with the threat of Gale Wings, and with +2 Attack and those high-powered STABs he can rip through opposing teams. Makes a great ace-in-the-hole, and while it was more popular early in the gen now people just expect BandSpam. Plus the fourth slot can go to Roost, WoW, or U-turn depending on your style and needs.

I have less success with it than Staraptor, who regularly gets 1 or 2 ko's before being forced out or knocked out. Talonflame is a good revenge killer but doesn't hit very hard.

I've found that it's not worth arguing over people who think that playing to win and playing for fun are two separate things
Talonflame is easy enough to counter if you know what you're doing, hell, being able to keep your rocks up is usually enough to absolutely gimp the fucker from the start

Not reliable enough as a counter really, it comes down to a toin coss on whether or not they swap talonflame, because if you sucker punch and they do, you're fucked, and if you dont sucker punch and they dont, you're fucked

I'd rather stick to the tried and tested "just use any bulky pokémon that is neutral to, or resists, flying and fire

Sounds interesting, I like movesets that use a bit of mindgaming, but i'm not sure I'd use that for a late game sweeper, I'm pretty much certain that bandflame would be a better late game option, as it comes in with power already, and can clean up with it's pseudo+1 fearless falcons

Not saying it doesn't work, just that I prefer the power it has on choice band sets, and I find that to be a bit more reliable in general
