And even then, if Swagger was a viable move in GSC or ADV, people would deal with it because the pool of pokemon anyone would care to use was extremely small, so fringe strategies like that would not be that hard to deal with. Also, things were quite a lot bulkier back then. We didn't have stupid monstrosities like Lando-I, Mega Mawile, Mega Pinsir, Mega Zards, Mega Gyarados, etc. Top offensive powerhouses were holding Leftovers and using 80 BP STAB moves. Things were quite a lot slower-paced back then, HO wasn't really a thing, so Swagplay wasn't a huge issue (if it could have been possible.) Nowdays, teams have way more important things to deal with than a move that just says "fuck you" to your opponent and reduces the game to who can win a 50/50 RNG roll.
