Do you like Satoshi Tajiri? His early work was a little too 'super mario' for my taste, but when Red came out in '96, I think he really came into his own - both commercially and artistically. The whole series has a clear, relevant message, and a layer of symbolic depth that really gives Nintendo a big boost. He's been compared to Miyazaki, but I think Tajiri has a far more modern, deeper storytelling ability. In '99, Tajiri released this, Gold and Silver, his most accomplished generation. I think his undisputed masterpiece is '
Pokémon Trainer Red', a trainer so ambiguous most people probably don't know what the fuck they just fought - but they should! Because it's not just about the Pikachu on the shoulder, and the designs, it's also a personal statement about Tajiri and Otaku culture itself! Congratulations!
You have just caught them all!
