Is anyone really going to use this thing? 4 common weaknesses, no speed, no specials attack and a ability that is starting to become common.

Not to mention the Hoenn champion uses it so you can't use it in game without copying him.

I have a feeling that it'll see some use in VGC seeing as how normal metagross had been a stay in the best for good bulk & damage, plus Togekiss is going to be everywhere next year, so this'll help counter it.

Good bulk, fairies are nice to counter all the common dragons (especially if Lati@s is legal next year), and most importantly it gets redirect through follow me. As it is, Amoongus is used more for redirect than for sleep among good players.

Add in it being immune to ground and it's Air Slash flinch chance "stacking" with Rock Slides and it's easy to pair with many common pokemon in the format, such as Garchomp. Actually, Garchomp and Togekiss make a really good core, with Togekiss being able to redirect all dragon attacks and Garchomp having SE STAB on Poison, Electric and Steel types (just need something to cover the shared Ice weakness).

it's better to go all in one stats then be mediocre in both, and an ability being common doesn't stop it being good. 3 other pokemon having it isn't even that common anyway.

the bastard is gong to have 700 total base stat and is going to hit like a truck, it would be hard for them to make it not usable in some form.

I swear that I'm the only one who thinks Metagross is shit. His only good offense is in physical shit, which even then he has Meteor Mash, and Earthquake. If I ever used him, I guess he'd just be a Fairy check. And now that his Mega has Tough Claws makes him worse. Does he even have any claw moves?

I think you don't understand how tough claws works. It boosts ALL contact moves from elemental punches to tackle. All of them. By 33%. Effectively a life orb.

Metagross honestly isn't THAT slow. I get the feeling he'll probably get a speed boost when he's mega, too, so he'll be fine but at very least you can use an agility boost to get to where you want to be for sweeping.

The problem is Metagross is kinda restricted by 4 moves. Bullet punch and Meteor Mash are a must, which means half your moves are already terrible offensive type, so you already only have 2 slots to make your coverage work. Then you have to pick what moves you need between zen headbutt, hammer arm, earthquake or possibly elemental punches depending on what the move tutor situation is going to look like in ORAS. Pretty much all of them are good options so you want to run as many as possible... Most likely, you'll find that there really isn't much room for Agility.

So just throw him out against something he can balk after you clean up anything he might fear and you'll be fine.

252+ Atk Tough Claws Metagross Thunder Punch vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 344-406 (85.1 - 100.4%) -- 6.3% chance to OHKO

Anyway, common weaknesses don't break a Pokemon.
Ability, Typing, Move Pool, and stat distribution are what is important.

Tough Claws with his bulk, attack stat, and move pool will make him very viable.

Not to mention Clear Body before mega to avoid intimidate users from weakening you.
