I love Vanilla, but once you've played them all, the difficulty hacks are quite nice for extra challenge. If you're only doing Nuzlocks for the difficulty, you should try them out.

OC hacks in my experience are either autistic/edgy as fuck or actually really good. Sadly, this is not an even split.

Admittedly, I'm pretty easily impressed when it comes to hacks, going back to when I found out about all these new games with loads of new zones to explore.

So long as it's not unnecessarily dark or whatever and it has some new maps and a not entirely retarded story, I'm usually quite happy. I prefer a recycled "Team Evil trying to capture all pokemon for evil. Also go get 8 badges" story than a bad attempt at something new, anyday.

Which is the best platinum hack? I have this terrible urge to play gen 4, but I dont want something super difficult. Higher difficulty than vanilla is fine, but I dont want to have to grind for hours to beat the first gym or some shit.

Japanese version of Crystal. Thinking I might nuzlocke it. 2nd Gen is pretty easy, just the grinding sucks. Especially on console. Not knowing the names of the Pokemon or the moves they are using might make it a bit harder. Eh, idk.

Got my final badge and.. a second shiny. I did a double-take and assumed it was another of N's Pokemon (Which I catch and shove into a different box and don't use), doesn't help Golduck is not a very distinct shiny.

Wow, this took longer than it should.

Long story short: I headed to Oreburgh Mine, dice decided Rafael couldn't evolve for next 2 gyms. Nothing wrong with that. But then I didn't get a Mon with Rock Smash.

I had to go to Route 5, and so dice decided I couldn't use Rafael for the next gym. Luckily I got Cole, and I should be pretty okay against Cranidos.

Well, been a while...college and stuff. Time for a briefing.

Got past Roark easily enough, and, unlike my Pearl run - still there, I do remember it exists - my Turtwig did not faint at the hands of his Cranidos. Things went smoothly after that, though I developed an annoying tendency to run into doubles...missed out on catching a fair few 'Mons thanks to that. A female Abra I ran into also fled, so...eh, sucks.

Catch in Floaroma turned out to be a Wurmple, and evolved into Beautifly. Pleased to have a special counter to Gardenia alongside Stradivari and Munin, I progressed into Eterna Forest...where she was killed by an opposing Bug Catcher's own Beautifly, because the retaliatory Gust had to be a crit. Lola there took her place, and as with past Bunearys, Frustration is a pretty handy move...Jolly nature helps immensely, as well.

Just about finished grinding for Gardenia. Hopefully I can be a bit more regular with updates. Time to see if this goes well or not.

I'm doing a run of X with 6 predetermined favorites.

Does anybody have any ideas for a ruleset that would make the game more interesting? Permadeath is a little too unforgiving when I'm only going to have 6 pokemon.

I've never really played with dupes clause. Has advantages and disadvantages though, this way you can end up with 5 rattatas by the 3rd city.

Is Starmie that great? I have Psychic covered with a Grumpig and Gyarados are pretty boss with a phy/spe split.

So my basic run has been doing well, all out of my resets that I allowed myself to have though, so no more Pokemon can be saved (R.I.P Terro the Archen, you could have learned to fly ;_; ) and I'm at Mistralton now.

I want to try a Nuzlocke style challenge for the GameBoy TCG that just hit the virtual console. Here were the ideas I was thinking of for rules:

1. If a pokemon faints, I must remove it from the deck.
2. I get to pick one Pokemon per pack to add to my deck. (All trainers/energies are fair game)

Vaporeon won't die easily; alternatively get a fire or thunderstone in goldenrod.

I wouldn't suggest fire because of Bold, but Flareon is significantly better in SGSS.

Also playing SS is worse than SG.

The difficulty spike between Ecruteak and Olivine/Cinnabar is completely obscene. It jumps some 10 levels and there's nowhere near enough trainers for that.

Not really, it jumps from like 25 in Burnt tower to 30; there is an annoying jump, but it's doable.

You can easily grind up your team to 36 between the lighthouse, the route 39 grass, and the route 40-41 trainers.

You can't make a bee line to chuck from Morty.

So I'm playing Sacred Gold but I'm only at the second gym for the fifth time in a row. I decided to name my pokemon from monsterhunter because I got lazy/wanted a theme. I fucked up and named by Togepi and Slowking the wrong names and will probably change them.

It's tough around Reflection cave, but the rest of the game is easy from there. The gym leaders don't even try, Lysandre is a tad difficult but that's about it. The only completed run, I only lost 3 pokes post-Korrina. 2 to crits, one cause I was retarded.

(I should mention that the runs I try are stuff like wonderlockes and mono/Duolockes/etc.)

No exp share, no super training, standard Nuzlocke rules. Got to the 6th gym and just quit out of boredom. My team is way too strong. Trainers have maybe one or 2 pokemon, gym leaders barely more. Zero threats at all.

Only death I had was a critical Counter before the first Gym. Whoopty doo.

Here's hoping ORAS is still somewhat difficult

That's mostly because the guy who made it isn't a native English speaker. The types aren't that dumb, but, there's a few redundant things. For example there's now a Wood type along side grass typing. It's a pretty decent hack though, I'd say give it a shot even if some of it is dumb.

So I managed to get an AR code working in colosseum that makes all enemy pokemon shadow pokemon (and thus catchable). How would I go about doing a nuzlocke on this? First in each area might be ok but it might be better to do something a bit more varied. I'd have preferred to somehow randomize the existing shadow mons but I couldnt find a code for that.

it's pretty good. At some points the grinding becomes hard because the gyms are increased in level but only a few areas have higher level mons to grind on. Also the game is fucking long, it has the orange islands after kanto. I nuzlocked it once and died vs lance because my best mons were paralyzed and i forgot status heals for them

Pokemon X wonder dicelocke rules:
Catch 6 pokemon asap and wonder trade them for a team of 6. Levels must be under 20 before the first gym and under the gym's strongest for every subsequent gym. Use of the PC is banned. If a pokemon dies you must wonder trade it, and if that pokemon dies you must forfeit that slot on your team. Roll after the first gym and at the end of every subsequent gym.
1. Wonder trade a random pokemon from the party
2. Items and exp. share are off limits until the next gym is beaten
3. Use of pokemon centres is prohibited until the next gym is beaten
4. A random pokemon is out of action until the next gym is beaten
5. A random pokemon must be in the lead for all fights until the next gym is beaten

I'd start with HGSS. Johto games were good, but definitely easier thanks to under leveled gyms. A good starting point.

Also everyone follows core rules of perma death and 1 catch per route, but the rest of them (marts, items, potions, nicknames, rare candy revives, etc) are all up to you.

So now I have a level 17 Azurill and catching a level 7 Ralts and Flebebe when I find them

Glad with getting one of my favorite Pokémon as a starter, but the nature is kind of annoying for now until I get spark or thunder punch, and the rival's fixed starter is a Bulbasaur (last option was Turtwig, who I also like).

Yes. I decided to do the contest but didn't get anything.

35 I actually need to do but 34 and 36 had pokemon that have died. My starvia died to a random trainers sudowudo's rock throw. My togetic died to a fucking Furret with fire fang. Now my Bronzor with Plus 3 defense paralysis and his only usable attack disabled is going up against the most annoying fucking lickatung I've seen. So fuck whitney.

Well too late now. He was actually destroying everything before that random fire fang. Fortunately because I've really only had two pokemon they are 7 levels above whitneys and can sweep it well but I don't think that luck is going to hold out.
