The mere recognition of light as some magic, holy, arcane power necessitates a counteracting magic darkness that's unambiguously "edgy" and that's absent from GF's canon interpretation of the Dark type. It's a bit abstract but I see where people are coming from, especially when light types look kind of evil, alien, or bizarre.
