Perhaps if his Growlithe would evolve to Arcanine and it would have a mega evolution, maybe somehow they could trigger it (James being rich and all, he could actually possess some mega/key stones at some point) and at the same time leave him behind right after again so TR wouldn't be OP and Arcanine can keep watching over his family. I'd personally love this.
