Mario has six characters not counting Yoshi or the unannounced Wario (who got his own symbol in Brawl). Pokémon has always had as many characters as Mario, which leaves room for Jigglypuff (who has been in EVERY game) and Mewtwo.

Yoshi, DK, Diddy, and Wario are not Mario characters.

They have their own series, and their own symbol and stages in Smash.

Sakurai said that Brawl has 39 characters, meaning the Pokemon count individually.

So, Pokemon actually had more than Mario in Brawl.

You're right about Melee though. Forgot Dr. Mario existed. Yoshi and DK are still from Yoshi and DK respectively though.

Brawl: First of all you forgot Jiggs. Second, DK, Yoshi, Diddy, and Wario are marked as DK, Yoshi, DK, and Wario respectively for series, making Mario and Pokémon 4 and 4.

Not that anon but that's a workaround if I've ever seen one.
Hell, except for probably DK, they've had many more appearances in Mario games than they have in their own games.
Not counting them as Mario characters at this point is just plain wrong no matter who says it.

But that's how Smash treats them. In Brawl, the most characters a series could have was 4, and only Mario and Pokémon got four. In Smash 64, it was two, and Mario and Pokémon got two. In Melee, the most was five, and Mario got five while Pokémon got four.

In Smash 4, Mario is getting at least five and likely six. (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Rosalina) Pokémon currently has four, but Jigglypuff who is likely in simply because it was in Smash 64 makes five. I doubt Nintendo would make any series have more reps than Mario, but if we get another Mario rep, we'll likely get another Pokémon.

Mewtwo has a good chance, considering how pushed they pushed it before XY's release.

I don't understand this. Sakurai was disappointed as fuck for revealing so much of Brawl before release so there was no mystery anymore. He said in an interview he wanted the surprise of unlocking new characters to still exist while playing the game. So why did he change his mind and give permission to reveal EVERYTHING?

Does Sceptile have two mega evolutions? Has Sceptile been featured in the anime recently? Has Sceptile been featured in two old movies and one new movie just last year?

Mewtwo is going to be the 6th Pokemon.

Even fucking Blaziken has higher chances than Sceptile. Blaziken got its mega evolution early and it got its own figuarts just like the gen 1 starters, Mewtwo, and Lucario. Blaziken is obviously the Charizard of gen 3. They don't care about having an arbitrary grass Pokemon when types don't even matter in this game. They have no real incentive to put Sceptile in the game especially when very few people mentioned wanting it until Greninja was announced and then people started spouting their silly patterns.
