Aegislash is an interesting case because it's both uber-worthy but also beneficial to OU.
Standard "broken" arguments really don't apply here.

Stealth Rock was cancer in Gen 4 and 5 because Rapid Spin was unreliable and had terrible distribution.
The Defog buff made it much more manageable.

Yeah Smogon just hit a new low here.
Aegi is the best pokemon in OU so of course it's overcentralizing to a degree.

I never heard of this argument until this suspect test started. And for good reason: it's incredibly dumb. 50/50 happens all the time with double switches, Sucker Punches, Substitutes and whatnot. King's Shield deserves no special mention in the matter.

It's not even a true 50/50 situation because the odds are usually AGAINST Aegislash.
Sub+3 attacks Kyurem-B vs Aegislash is a perfect example of how Aegi's KS mindgames can horribly backfire against a pokemon it has a type advantage against.
For Aeislash it's a matter of "win or die", for Kyu-B it's "win or win more".

Aegi doesn't really fit the criteria for "broken".
It requires skill, doesn't sweep entire teams by itself, doesn't wall the majority of the metagame because of its common weaknesses and the support it provides to the rest of the team is certainly not something stupidly good like Shadow Tag.

Also, isn't it strange how smogon's singles metagame has been so ban-happy but doubles has removed sleep clause and has a smaller banlist than VGC by a much farther margin?

Aegislash might not be broken, but what bothers me about these threads is that people needlessly hate when this is a suspect test -- even if you don't think it's broken, how would you not think it deserves to be suspected? It's the defining pokemon of this metagme.

You could also say that King's Shield is broken on everything that gets it. It's not like blaziken where it's broken with speed boost but plenty of other things with speed boost aren't broken (yanmega, sharpedo, etc).

Doubles in general is a vastly different metagame because things that might be broken in 1v1 (shaymin-s flinch hax, for example) is much more manageable in 2v2 (you can only flinchhax one thing at a time, leaving the other mon open to attack it).

I agree that it needed a suspect test but I feel like it might be banned for the wrong reasons - not because it's broken, but because it's keeping their favourites down or other silly reasons.

Just to point out; the VGC "banlist" isn't primarily a balance thing. It's so that you can play VGC with no trouble even if you only ever played the current gen. The '14 banlist is literally "you can only use Kalosdex pokemon hatched or caught in Kalos, and you can't use boxcover/event Legendaries or Mewtwo".

Dark Void isn't even banned in VGC 2014, and this latest season has shown that it's very manageable in Doubles.

Dark void is a sleep inducing move that cannot be nullified and is exclusive to really strong and fast pokemon.
King's Shield is just a protect variation that lowers atk when contact move is used. It only affects contact moves and doesn't protect from aliments, you can easily burn or paralyze or even put Aegislash to sleep. King's Shield is only broken if you are stupid enough to use contact moves on Aegislash.

Yeah, I can understand the idea that Mega Heracross and Gardevoir and Medicham (to an extent) receive less usage because of Aegi, but they're powerful stallbreakers regardless and I don't see why having them in the meta more is a good thing. Sure, we can just ban Hera and Gardy because "broken shouldn't check broken," but I don't know if Aegi is broken to begin with.
I've played around ~80 battles on the suspect ladder so far using Stall w/ Heracross and HO Birdspam. Both are really strong without Aegi.

Yeah, it is an accessibility thing. I should have pointed to the general (such as in-game) banlists, which ban more things and more things that don't need to be banned.
Dark Void isn't fun. I won't say it's broken, but it isn't fun to play against.

I've found mawile more of an issue than Aegislash (who gives me some problems even when I try to fucking counter it). I suppose in 3v3s you can't always carry around a will o wisper or the exact counter. But with more support options in 6v6 etc it's a lot more of a threat.

Smogon used this argument when banning swagger because confusion is literally a 50/50 coinflip.
Why are 50/50 mindgames bad? You should read your opponent's playstyle and predict accordinally. That's the difference between good plays and bad plays. The player forcing the 50/50 can lose too so why is that an argument in favor of a ban?
Classic smogon. Watch them ban Thundurus next because of the 50/50 it has on a priority taunt or a mixed attacker set.

No, there were extensive debates on Smogon over SR's legitimacy in OU and the "it keeps Dragonite/Volcarona/Moltres/Kyu-B/etc. in check" was far and away the most common argument used by those who supported it.

Burn doesn't do anything to Shadow Ball, but the lowered damage on Sacred Sword/Head Smash means that Bisharp/Mandibuzz have a much easier time dealing with it. Not to mention it has to commit to taking burn damage to use King's Shield.
