Why does everyone love it and why does Nintendo keep shoving it down our throats? It's even in Super Smash now.

It's always been in Smash. In 64 it would pop out of the door on the Pokemon stage, in Melee it was in the Pokeballs, and it was playable in Brawl.

It's one of the most popular pokemon in the fanbase.

On the 10th anniversary tour, Charizard won #1 in the poll of most popular pokemon, and was pretty much the only non-legend in the top 10, IIRC.

I can remember a poll ran by IGN just before Gen 6 was released. Amusingly, Charizard came in 1st with Mewtwo 2nd. Think it had like a million or so votes too. Looking back, both of them receiving 2 megas each wasn't so farfetched.

Can't really blame GF for pushing it so much when people want it shoved down their throats.
