Tried completing my Leaf Green dex a while ago... Assuming I was in a region where obtain stuff like Mew and such was almost impossible I ended up with most mons except Mew, Celebi and Deoxys. Action replay wasn't a thing back then, and I got Lugia, Ho-Oh and Jirachi from Gamecube games.

Yes I caught all my pokemon legit. I've transfered all my pokemon from my gba games to DS and finally to my 3DS. I can thank pokebank for finally giving me a celebi to complete my national dex. The rest of the events I couldn't go to I had to trade my ass off for. I can't wait to get the new event pokemon that haven't been released yet.

Every gen. I catch as many mons as physically possible on the cart without trades. Even if I caught them in previous gens. Get the dex as full as possible. Then I trade up the ones that aren't possible to catch from the previous gen.

I would make you catch a certain amount of mons in order to unlock sidequest areas throughout the main game. Catching em all in the regionaldex would unlock post game areas that contain legendary pokemon. Catching the whole nationaldex would give diploma, shiny charm, and a new location that has mons with 3 perfect IVs and hidden abilities.

Honestly, X/Y are the easiest games to get a full Pokedex, if you know how to get the legendaries by merely going little red clip mode and trading the right pokemon to have all legendaries bar event ones. Since the GTS doesn't allow event pokemon to be traded (and yet, there are still retards requesting them in the GTS), you have to trust on friends/someone online to get you a event one for each of them.

Pokemon Red/Blue and Gold/Silver had glitches to achieve full Pokedex (how you want to define this as a illegal way to get them is up to you - cheating devices obviously illegal) and in Diamond/Pearl, you could do the void glitch for some of them, I think. From Pokemon Diamond/Pearl to White/Black 2, you could get former pokemon from the GBA games. Inter-connectivity only made shit tons easier.

Now the GBA games is where it gets fucking hard as fuck, depending on where you live to get them event pokemons IIRC.

Back in Gen 1 I took the time to trade with friends that had Red/Blue to finish Yellow (I had Red too and swapped them over there to finish that but then traded them all back to Yellow)

Once I got my R4 I decided to for laughs take the Mew Glitch Challenge in Red version and filled the PC with every single pokemon in pokedex order by catching/levelling the ones that are native to Red and Mew Glitch abusing the rest of them.

I keep this particular save file though just to make people buttmad though.

Got extremely close when I was only like 10, in Gold Version.

Hoenn was a shit, especially when it came to catching them all.

Platinum version was like Gold, I got REALLY close, but was missing a few.

Then finally, FINALLY, I beat the PokéDex in Gen 6. It's such a beautiful feeling, I felt like I had completed a childhood dream, a goal. Something to scratch off my bucket list.

I thought back to myself trying in vain to find every Pokémon in Gold (obviously couldn't because version exclusives.)

Well we get a Shiny Charm, but something I liked was that in B2/W2 in addition to that, you also got the chance to catch a Shiny Haxorus. This was good because lets face it, even with the Charm there's a strong chance you'll never catch a Shiny still, so the Haxorus made up for this for the people with harsher luck.

In the future, I'd like this. A legendary, or Shiny, or a Pokemon with a usually unlearnable Move, or a Pokemon with a normally-locked HA. Something special like that, available post-Dex completion.

I have all 151 on my Blue cartridge with no trading, modding, or hacking Glitch exploitation, i.e., Mew Glitch, was necessary for certain Pokémon.

I even made a separate box for the four Missingno. Formes, even if they did all turn into Rhydons and Kangaskhans in the box. I still caught and named them, so it counts.

My last regional Pokémon that needs its Kalos Pentagon is Salamence. I'm only a few levels away now. Nationally, I still have 12 or so that need Kalos Pentagons to have every possible Pokémon born in Kalos. Shinies are at 330+, but most of them are imports. All right boys and girls, I'll tell you my quick story in honor of ORAS coming out soon.

When I got Sapphire, I loved that shit. I made it a goal to complete the pokedex, something I had never done before. A lot of work later, I was a mere 11 pokemon away from completing it.

Then, some nigger kid asks if he can play my GBA SP. I tell him I don't care if he starts a new file, as long as he doesn't save.

Boot it up next day, in Petalburg with a fucking Treecko, some nigger kid name for the trainer. What really went wrong here is that I let a nigglet touch my stuff. Never again.

I've completed it in five different games, and I'm working on my sixth completion as we speak.

Generation 2, 3, 4, and 5 completed. Crystal, Emerald, Platinum, Black 1 and 2. Sadly they were all done in Pokemon hacks that let you catch them all without trading, but, that's what gen 6 is for right?
