Mega Evolution is literally the best thing to happen to Pokemon since the rework, maybe earlier. It allows remakes and 3rd versions to actually add new monsters while not fucking with the Pokedex, and makes useless shitmons like Kangaskan and Banette actually vaguely usable. It's the fulfilment of all our dreams of Mist Stones. Charcolt and Rainer and Junglesaur are real goddamn Pokemon now and it's amazing.

It's great, but as many already said they keep giving it to the wrong pokémon. Manecrtic, Houndoom and Medicham were okay, but why the fuck did they give it to Mewtwo, Tyranitar, Blaziken and other already good pokemon? It was also unnecessary for pokémon like Mawile, Pinsir, Heracross and Sableye. They should have given them normal evolutions.

Here's an argument. Previous gen's design philosophy of revisiting pokemon for evolutions is flawed.

They approached the gen 4 evolutions in particular clumsily, selecting certain traits to augment and embellish, and of course make the evolutions huge so their prevos look slightly less like the fully evolved pokemon they'd been known to be for years. They were a misstep that didn't take into account the traits that endeared people to those pokemon's existing designs.
