It takes a lot of the art team's time to model all of the Pokemon for the overworld for something that most people won't even care about. Amie at least had minigames and a general sense of bonding with your mons attached to it.

Like the other guy said, why play anything but showdown then? Why should you not be attached to your pokemon. It is one of the key elements the game tries to project onto you.

The battle models are nothing like overworld models. Since almost all of the processing power is going into just a few models in battle they can make them look really good. On the overworld they need to completely re-rig them to have less polygons. The textures are also completely different. Compare the Skiddos on the ranch route and in Lumiose to the ones in battle.

I have to admit it would look really weird with some pokemon. Maybe if they limited it to shouldermon and it was mainly used to drive up friendship/ happiness (now that happiness gives an in-game boost worth having)

And I think following pokemon are fine so long as they aren't much bigger than a human is, so you could still have most fully evolved starters

If it ever comes back, we need to be able to turn it on/off. In HGSS it was really neat at first, but now it just really bugs me for some reason and it's the only reason I still enjoy Crystal more.

And the abstract minigames are dumb

They spent over a year and a half doing Amie, and it's still like it is.

It won't be truly worthwhile until a gen or two from now it develops all the way into a Nintendogs clone with Pokemon.

They spent over a year and a half making models and animations for almost a thousand pokemon, and they don't really have to do all that again unless nintendo somehow develops a handheld that displays an extra dimension
If they keep up the work it could be worthwhile by the next game

If you look closely a ton of models are recycled from Pokedex 3D and such, just touched up at most and with new textures and animations. And if they aren't recycled, they wasted time by making models pretty much exactly the same as those ones.

You're assuming that guy doesn't enjoy the other aspects of the game for, you know, the fun.
I mean just because he dislikes following pokemon doesn't mean he hates contests, pokeathlon, amie and so on.
They served a use as they extended the gameplay and in amie's case gave your pokemon exp buffs among other things.
Following pokemon was just a useless gimmick that provided no benefits to the player at all aside from getting the last trainer card star which was just shoved in bullshit

Well yeah, Musicals are top tier
While all of this is opinion, I think following is way better than just about everything, Amie is a good step, but it's so horribly done that it's not much better than shit like contests, and the gameplay effect is negligible at best due to the fact that you actually need to grind a petting simulator to get very minute effects, which is ridiculous

It could be made so that only your in-game starter would follow you (like in Pokémon Yellow), I don't think there has been any starter too big even when fully evolved.
