Why the fuck has there only been one dad in the entire series?

Is it some kind of cultural thing?
Is it just tradition?
Does it have something to do with autism? I'm not joking with this one, I once read that many autistic children feel uncomfortable around there fathers

there was apparently an official handbook that says plenty of men try to become trainers and leave their family to pursue their dream but are too ashamed to come back after they failed.

it seems that most of the protagonists fathers are these men and Norman is the only one that succeeded.

In XY, the player's mom, Grace, mentions that at a Rhyhorn race, the player's dad was waiting at the finish line and Grace's Rhyhorn couldn't stop... so maybe he died.

But in every other game, I'm assuming they're either just not relevant, maybe they divorced, maybe the father's away on business like with Ness (although Ness actually got to speak to his dad on the phone), who knows. It doesn't really matter. Hoenn changed it up is all.
