>>20072313Gamefreak doesn't design for shit. The only reason doubles is because it's really, really easy to NOT make something that's broken in doubles. Mega Kanga? More bulk than mew, effective 213 base attack, breaks subs and sashes, Swords Dance that ridiculous movepool? Not even close to broken, because it doesn't have a spread move and its defensive typing is bad. Mega Gengar, with the most ridiculously broken ability in singles, the SpA of Kyu-W and the speed of Mewtwo? Lol shadowtag isn't even that good in doubles.
Imagine for a second that Mega Gardevoir had a lot more physical bulk, retained Wail of the Banshee and received Nasty Plot: THAT would broken in doubles.
To check if something is broken in doubles, on paper:
>hits really hard>has a STAB spread move>is really bulky>is appreciably fast (over base 90ish)>has a good typing both defensively and offensively>can boost itself without a significant opportunity costBasically, if a mon does not meet even two or three of these criteria, it's (probably) totally and completely balanced. Kanga does not have a STAB spread move and Normal is an awful typing. That's basically all Gamefreak needs to do to make doubles "balanced:" make sure anything they make is not on the level of things like Kyogre or Xerneas.
Thing is, singles was very balanced in ADV and DPPt. Those were FUN metas. And many of the lower tiers in BW2 and even this gen are very fun. Singles isn't a lost cause, it's just that it takes a lot of work to make it that way now that Gamefreak has pumped up the power creep. Sure, it may take dozens of bans. Sure, people will bitch and moan about them. But OU is smogon's meta, not gamefreak's, it can be fixed (and tbh with DeoS/D gone it's in much better shape. Like maybe two or three things need to go now.)
