A light type would be completely unnecessary. Dark type is basically fighting type, but Dark types don't fight fairly and use tricky underhanded moves to win. I'm assuming that when people think "dark", they think the time of day, and so they think that there should be a "polar opposite" like Light type.

But there's already Fighting and Fairy, so not only would light type be totally unnecessary, it would be redundant and make no sense. The Dark type 'weakness to strength' ratio doesn't need to be leveled out, and Fairy should be enough of a polar opposite to Dark.

There will never be Light or Sound types. Get over it.

Fairy is most similar to what people would define as a light type.

Light type would best dark; dark would abhor and conquer fighting, and light would defeat the beast, dragon.

The only difference for light I've seen suggested is that Light and Fairy would be SE against one another as some kind of duality thing.

But consider also that some types (again water/fire, grass/fire) follow a certain "natural logic" if i may, as in "fire easily burns weeds.

the duality light/dark it's so standard that would be difficult to see an introduction of a light type that has nothing to do with dark

I'm pretty doggone sure that if you were to do it, then the types as we know would not exist. You would completely rework even what types exist and how they relate to each other. You would probably run into the same conundrum that I do on if you even presume to divide anything, then you'll end up dividing it more and more, and not everything can be divided that much, and it becomes impractical to even consider them equal to much broader powers. Not to mention, like this, it becomes unclear what power should be which, when it can be multiple ones, or a combination of the others. This is a very limited view for anything, but it cannot be denied that that is just how people think. Truly, I do not believe any power should have the advantage over others, but that would require an entirely different system.

Nope, I don't think has ever been discussed. Surely not. No way that anybody could ever have ever used the English translation for the あく type and thought, hey, that's like shadows and stuff right? I like the idea of Sound-type. It fits quite well with the moves and Pokemon we have. Balancing the type chart if it was included would be the difficulty.

I remember another quirky type suggested in the past was Blade/Sword/Warrior type. Pokemon that use blades like Gallade, Scyther, Sceptile, etc is retyped.

Light-based attacks exist in the game, but has no real special quirks to it, with the exception of Sunny Day working with Solar Beam or the former time-based recovery moves.

Sound has more quirks to it to though - having auto-infiltrator and being blocked by soundproof mons the same way levitate blocks ground types.

So we generally agree Sound is the most likely next type if they were to add one
But Strengths/Weakenesses?
SE against: Fire, water, fighting, flying
NE against: Steel, grass, ghost, ground
Not the most balanced, but vaguely make sense

Also it should be SE against ice logically, but giving ice another weakness is just a stupid move. So clearly its likely to happen
