Well, it's been strange.

On Tuesday I hoarded one box of froakie to break the monotony for a while, and hatched a shiny. It was torrent.
I was so frustrated that I hoarded another five of froakie (along with five hawlucha) and suddenly, pic related.
So I'm very grateful for that, and I got extremely lucky with the spread.

But, still no shiny hawlucha, and I don't want to give up on that.

well heres a few things I've learned. One, a hard shaking patch next to you can be gone into with success. I usually catch the mon that way I have a higher chance of continuing the chain. Also I found myself being an idiot and accidently running into wrong patches because i'm not paying attention so now I leave the grass to recharge the radar.

Is a shiny red florges worth it? I've only started it this weekend because it was the easiest for me to set up breeding parents for, but I'm not feeling it. I have a few hexes and pents already. I was just doing red because dragon buster georgia will never show up in the anime again.

Dry Skin is most likely the best being that it grants an immunity. I suggest using a Dry Skin parent instead of using one that has its HA.
Hawlucha will never need Ally Switch.

Skiddo Anon here. I've had good results with breeding and hoard battling, myself. Chaining, not so much. Takes a lot of practice and focus, where the others are just try and hope.

Hey /shw/, I suck at breeding.

I got a 6 IV ditto from a giveaway a few months ago and I have it holding the destiny knot, yet none of my Pokemon being bred have perfect IVs. Am I doing something wrong?

You can't expect guaranteed perfect IV's just from ditto alone, if you hatch a pokemon with say 3-4 IV's then throw that in to breed with the ditto, are you just using pokemon you caught from the wild or what?

It depends on the RNG, if you get any decent hatches with good IV's then switch to those in the breeding process right away so the IV's are better guaranteed for future hatches.

Chaining can be good if you have the patience - I find it a lot more rewarding than the other options because of the challenge, but there's no guarantee that the pokemon will be any good.

Horde battling is probably the easiest, but there aren't many hordes around, and even less that are worth it. Good if you just want fast shones without caring about their stats.

Breeding is the best way to go if you care about IVs and hidden abilities and stuff, but it gets pretty repetitive. It's the only way to get useful shinies if that's what you're looking for.

6iv is never guaranteed. most you can consistently get is 5iv if each parent is 6iv.

Also if it helps, it doesn't matter which parent holds it, as it'll still transfer the ivs

How do you guys keep yourselves from going insane?

I'm on day 5 and about 2000 eggs into going for a pentaperfect shiny Eevee. I've already had 3 shinies but they aren't the right spread and it's really demoralising.

I guess this makes up for hatching 2 consecutive pentaperfect shiny Beldums after about 20 eggs.

Because it takes 5IVs from both the parents and you were unlucky enough that it took 5imperfect IVs and only 1 perfect IV

Say you have a 3iv parent with Hp/Att/Def, and another with Sp.att/Sp.Def/Speed. It could possibly give you a 0iv one by picking Sp.att, def, and speed from the first one, and att/def from the second one

Well yeah, Events dont count, and technically some Pokemon must be bred/evolved, so "catching them all" is impossible, but the general idea is that stating that you dont want to complete the PokéDex is a bannable offense.

Think of it this way

Each Pokémon has 6 stats, and thus 6 IVs (one for each stat). When you breed two Pokémon together, they create an "IV Pool" of 12 IVs (6 stats, 2 parents). The Destiny Knot picks out 5 of these 12 IVs at random. Now the more of those 12 IVs in the IV Pool are 31's the better.

Ok, I finally have a good parent to start breeding for my shiny Turtwig. Surprisingly, my 6IV Ditto and 3IV Turtwig managed to hatch a hexaperfect Turtwig.
At least this time around I don't have to worry about its HA.

On the Ralts note, I should probably try to breed myself another shiny Gardevoir with decent stats, the one I have now was my first MM and I since I didn't bother IV breeding I feel like I should retry it sometime.

Use an online IV checker (serebii's will do the trick) and take the shiny into the Battle Institute, which will autolevel it up to 50 temporarily. Then check it's IVs with the checker.

Get into the battle challenge thing in Lumiose City so your Gible is lvl 50 and check it's HP stat. Then use an IV calculator on the Internet to determine its IVs in HP. Could very well be around 30.

i usually try to get female starters so that i can breed in egg moves earlier in the game instead of having to wait for dittos.
besides that, the gender of a pokemon is trivial outside of gender locked evolutions.
