It was mentioned in the pokemon center newsletter and for some reason isn't on serebii's or anyone's events lists. Then again they didn't bother listing that pokemon center HA Poliwhirl event either

Japanese pokemon XY can still be in English. The DS is Japanese. Mystery gift automatically switches to whatever language the game is set to.

Try subscribing to the JP Pokecenter newsletter - I noticed a bunch of pokemon center events that don't get covered by the fansites do happen every once in a while, though yes, they are less than stellar.

I was living there for a while myself for work, but moved back in 2012.

Some of those mons do require a purchase and/or lottery win though so maybe that's why dont bother mentioning it. HA Poliwhirl required that you buy one of the Poliwhirl Father's day items IIRC

yeah I get line notifications etc. Most of the events are whatever. Mostly just on the lookout for the event exclusive mons like Diancie etc.

go to a movie theater showing the Pokemon movie, go to mystery gift from the main menu of your pokemon game, select "via local wireless".

It might need a Japanese 3DS though.

Fair enough - I do rather like the Poliwhirl Father's day shit though - the designs are surprisingly classy looking and nobody suspects it's a pokemon related item when I wear the tie or use the handkerchief in a formal event.

That's likely but I can't confirm - all I can say is that US carts didn't work with JP events for 4th or 5th gen even if it was local wireless.

Actually come to think of it - I wasn't able to retrieve Charizard/Scizor from the corocoro serial code on my US copy of X even though it's set to JP.

I had to ask one of my friends in Japan to enter the code and trade me the mons. So I'm guessing that no, a US 3DS will not in fact be able to collect Diancie.

He said that IR and Wireless events aren't region locked, but Internet and Serial Code ones are.

I'm actually planning on getting a JP 3DS while I'm there regardless. I want Dragon Quest Monsters and Nintendo's more or less given up on ever localizing DQ anything at this point

the pokemon's region is based on the language setting you choose. Although I have a Japanese DS, all my pokemon show up as English.
