Staryu can breed with ditto. If you're not looking for good IVs you could just chain fish Staryu up if you have Y.

Getting decent IVs is a bit of a factor, but a shiny is a trophy of its own.
Just trying to whip up a Blaziken/Starmie/Ferroseed team I saw a few days ago. The Blaziken and Staryu are set on moves, but I need to grab eviolite, evolve the staryu, and find a ferroseed, which would be cool if it was shiny. Doesn't help that my brother caught one.

I'm not at the actual MM part of the process yet, since i switched from flabebe to helioptile yesterday, but....

how long might it take to get a pent child from breeding a hex dad with a mom of undetermined ivs?
or is it direct to cycle in females of increasing ivs?

once i get my pent/hex mom with egg move 1. then i can evolve it to heliolisk, to avoid level up moves, and breed with mm dad with egg move 2. indefinitely.
i'm still on the fence about using a solar power mom when i get to the actual helioptile MMing itself, but i can decide when i get to that point.

It doesn't matter what pokemon you encounter. You can also run away from the battle with no harm done. The only thing that matters is that you keep consecutively hooking pokemon, and you don't move from your spot.

I was breeding for a shiny Beldum and decided to take a break and try to fill my dex up with a few missing pieces from Friend Safari. Encounter a shiny Machoke and catch it. It has No Guard, is Impish, with perfect Hp and Def.

I secretly feel like I've wasted my shiny hatch for this Machoke that I just wanted for the dex entry... I wasn't even going to stay for a second one till I remembered Machamp. [/spoiler:lit]

I was going for a shiny key ring with no avail and I decided to wonder off my better leftovers (I usually just release). Lo and behold I fucking got one. It was caught in the wild so I didn't bother checking its IVs. I'm still going to try and hatch a competitively viable one but at least my day wasn't a complete failure.

No my Zard is bred to be a Y-Zard.
But that also means since he's bred as a special attacker I can leave him as Vanilla-Zard and his IVs, EVs, Nature, and Attacks can still work.

Some time after Platinum released, I decided to go back to Diamond for some reason after not playing it for some months. I saved at the Victory Road entrance, decided to grind a bit and the first encounter was a shiny Machoke. I was a bit confused and excited at the same time.

If I breed a Nidoqueen in a Dive Ball, there is the possibility of a Nidoran M hatching from it, right?

I'm not sure how the Ball works, tried asking but nobody answered. Egg moves are tricky. Lets take Sucker Punch for example. Since only Nido-M can learn it, you have to have a male with Sucker Punch in the Daycare and only the male babies will learn it. However, there's the problem of the Hidden Ability, which the rate will go down if you breed with a male.

The only shinies I've caught wild are a ditto in the safari and a sentret outside Parfum Palace.
Apart from that, there's the standard redGyarados and the Shiny Haxorus from BW2, luckily it was adamant on my first try so I just rolled with him for a while, but he doesn't look as good shiny as he did as a 2D sprite.

Not only that but only the Nidoran stage of the female line can breed. Don't ask why cause I have no idea.

So if you want egg moves and custom ball do this:

Breed a Nidoran (m) with the egg moves you want.
Then catch a Nidoran (f) in the ball of choice if you want to pass down the ball.
Then have the two nidoran breed for both egg moves and proper balltism.

It's complex but do-able

The average hunt is about 31 boxes without the shiny charm. So ~930 eggs. Sometimes it goes longer, sometimes it's shorter, but that's the average. But factor in that you're guaranteed to get the Pokemon you want unless you're hunting Nidoran and you can control its Nature and, to and extent, its IVs.

Not so bad. It was with a 6IV parent and a 5IV. So it was a kind of runt, however at least it got Speed and Sp Attack.

Why doth Masuda torment me so /shw ;_;

Just finished my hunt for Protean Froakie with pentaperfect SpeA IVs after over 2.5k eggs... Vow to make it my last hunt to preserve my sanity.

30 eggs in IV breeding Torchic next day just for battling - Shiny, Speed Boost, Pentaperfect. Manly tears were shed /shw.

I tried to quit guys / gals... I really did...

But Masuda keeps coaxing me back with his seductive sparkles.

Wow I am very happy and thrilled to see all these great shiny gets. I can only begin to imagine how excited and hype that moment must of been when you saw that shiny appear knowing you'd be the proud owner. Seriously, major congrats guys.

The charger on my ds is missing and i've been dragged my feet on ho-oh since irl stuff took front seat. I think I should have it in two weeks though when things calm down. Training up for a smash brothers melee tournament and trying to get an income flow is taking up a lot of time

As long as you have speed and sp attack you're good.

The Balltism is strong in this one... It alone makes this worth keeping imo.

Since you're running Special and Chotot falls over to a stiff breeze anyway I'd say it's pretty much perfect.
