Regular Mawhile is useable in game. But i felt the same about M-Aggron.

I'm doin a runthrough of Y as we speak and I have a Walrein. He's good, but totally boring to use in-game. I use Aqua Ring and them spam Stockpile until the damage he takes is less than the damage he heals from Leftovers/Aqua Ring then spam Surf/Frost Breath all day.

I managed to luck out and catch the level 25 one in Desert Resort in White 2 without knowing it would be there. It stayed with me the whole game, often being the highest leveled mon, even though it was outclassed by the end of the game.

I'm doing a mono-Water run of X with a Kingler, and I assure you that she works great in-game. Mud Sport and a high Defense allowed her to handle Ramos and Clemont well enough.

Also used a Drifblim on a mono-Ghost run a while ago. Fly, Phantom Force, Will-O-Wisp, Stockpile/Explosion, and Leftovers. Fun, but she didn't end up being as effective as the other ghosts.

Gyarados is useful for its large attack and 2 weaknesses. Ludicolo somewhat sucks until you get a grass move beyond absorb. Walrein is bulky and a pretty good choice.
