What Pokemon are generally most popular with young kids now?

Thanks to best buy's sale yesterday, my 6 and 7 year old nephews now have pokemon X & Y. I wanted to give them each a few pokemon each but I have no idea what is really popular.

I'm a genwunner and gave them each a bulbasaur because it was always my favorite, but other than that I don't have any real ideas what I could breed up and give them, so if you guys have any advice or insight into what pokemon the younger generation finds popular, I'd love to hear it.

anyway, it really does depend, but good general picks are:

1) a member of the charmander family, especially charizard - i was always a bulbakid, but the char family's pretty popular.
2) lucario, but they probably already got one in their campaign
3) greninja if they're into smash bros
4) who doesn't like eevee?
5) a big, bad psuedo-legend, probably. hydreigon seems like a good pick, as does tyranitar or salamence.
6) tyrantrum, who didn't love t-rex as a kid?

still, it'd probably be a lot easier if we knew what they were like personality-wise and some other interests.

[cool of you to do this, op; i sometimes train up things like a tyranitar and throw them onto wonder trade hoping they get into a kid's hands, but what you're doing is far more... guaranteed.]

I was thinking about breeding them up a psuedo but they only just beat the first and second gyms. I don't want to make the games too easy for them.

also considered breeding them a trapinch and letting them be surprised by what it evolves into.

I would say that depends on the kids, do you think they have enough patience to raise a Trapinch all the way? It can be finicky to raise if you don't know what you're doing.

Probably not. That was the main thing stopping me was that if I gave them a bagon or a trapinch they are 6 and 7. the odds of them evolving it to its final stage is low. Goomy is a cute motherfucker so I was considering breeding some goomy for them but that kinda has the same problem plus an obscure method of evolution.

Eevee is a good idea. Maybe a ghastly too.
