Glad to see Yokai Watch doing exceptionally well, but I don't think anything will ever recapture that boom that Pokemon had in the 90s-early 2000s. That shit was and still is everywhere.

Still, Yokai Watch could make it big, assuming they can market it overseas. Dunno if it'll happen, though, since it's more explicitly tied to a distinctly Japanese cultural phenomenon than Pokemon is/was.

From what I understand it's heavily based with Japanese folklore, monsters are based on stories and shit that they grew up with. Pokemon wasn't really like that at all.

Still, America has a culture of independent spirit remaining from its (relatively) recent state of being mostly unlawful expanses that influences its population today.

Beyond that, individual areas create the own cultures, such as the Appalachian, New England, Cajun, and northwest areas.

If they have a big enough advertising push it could get big overseas despite the focus on jap mythology but knowing Level-5 this shit will be dead in five years or so from overmilking and franchise fatigue.

Not to mention there's apparently no connectivity between the games or potential for a proper competitive environment to support the series like with Pokemon.
