Hello fellow /tr/ainers, I finally bought the Pokémon Bank a couple of months ago and I ran into some trouble.

Thing is, I never used it. Just got the Celebi, but never deposited anything because I'm too afraid of losing all my hard earned balltism mons and shinies. I just can't bring myself to use it, and I've ran out of boxes in game now.

What do? Is it really safe? Will nintendo erase all my valued pixelmons?

of course it's safe unless japan gets nuked or something, they wouldn't make a paid service for something like this without serious security measures

I don't put anything super special in there though, mainly just random stuff like breeding leftovers that I may want someday

I have my entire Living Dex and my collection of like 300+ Event Mons.

I believe someone stated once that they store a copy of this data in the cloud so even if something horrible happened in Japan, the data can still be recovered. I dunno the accuracy of that, but I assume there's plenty of backups for things.

Think about it this way. If your game gets lost/destroyed/corrupted/stolen/deleted by your little brother then you take a bath, and there's no hope of getting your pokes back short of genning them. If the servers for PokeBank crash and somehow delete all of their data, you take a bath, but so does Nintendo, and it's at least not your fault (meaning you might get them back).

It's safe. Safer than in your game, most likely.

I can't say, as far as Nintendo's ethics go, but I'm pretty sure they have multiple backups and secure servers if they follow norm.

However, I do have a problem with the idea that Pokemon left unattended will be deleted after so long. The data used per account is by all means and purposes, nothing. I bet a fucking $80 hard drive could hold everyone's Pokemon just fine. There should be no reason to erase Pokemon without subscription for any length of time.

It's just a way to keep you paying for the server. However, that is also literally nothing. $5 a year is easy for a hobo to come up with. Still, it's a shady move by principal on their part.

Has this actually happened to anyone?
I know that I haven't touched Bank since I dropped off some breeding rejects and transferred my mons on the first day and my shit is still there.

My brother didn't buy Bank for a couple of months after his trial ended, because he wasn't playing Pokémon at the time. He lost his Celebi because of it.

This would be my suggestion.

Get a powersave device, it allows you to copy/restore the data on your X/Y carts. Use it to clone the pokemon you care about. Keep a copy on your cart at all times, and leave a copy on pokebank.

Everything else thats filling your boxes is probably something that isnt gonna hit you too hard if you lose it.

In the meantime, if you have like a handful of pokemon your worried about losing, im willing to make copies of them for you

Meh, I don't want to spend 30 bucks on that.
And I have a lot of shit on my Bank I don't want to lose. All legit (plus XL and gen 2 and 5 starters) breedable Pokémon with their HA (I have HAutism), legendaries, shinies. But I'm afraid I'm gonna cave in eventually and buy it.

I'll try to save money and import a powersave myself some time in the future. Or just keep my cool if I lose them one way or the other. But again, thanks for the kind offer.
