I am actually getting back into the TCG after falling out around Stormfront for other reasons.

Are there really no good simulators out there besides the official TCGO thing which is pretty awful for testing decks unless you have every card already?

Yugioh has like 5 simulators running around and Magic has at least like 3. Redshark stopped with some ominous message last year or so about having a new one ready and google gives me no results

The closest thing I can find to something that won't make me grind fairy feebass for a week to get a box worth of legendary treasures is some other ominous reddit thread about an android app in development

Surely there's something that's updated for Furious Fists.

All the yugioh simulators are free including the official one

Magic has Cockatrice and stuff for free, though last I used it, I had to get it off some shady german site since the main one was down.

Even games like Vanguard have simulators for testing decks.

If I start seeing Landorus as much as I expect to, then I'm out of Modified. Landorus/Lucario/Raichu/Garbodor is going to be the best deck and none of the inevitably useless shit in Phantom Gate is going to stop that.

I mean, we all know XY has been a disaster so far, what good is Phantom Gate going to be? Two dark weak megas, 90% filler Pokemon and a couple maybe-listers? Look at Furious Fists. It had three playable Pokemon. Three.

Maybe they'll throw in a third like they did for Flashfire. I look forward to the next set because of a viable Lucario, but I kinda resent the rotation because it'll be in every deck along with Landorus. I'm one of those that make rogue decks because I'm too much of a special snowflake to want to use a meta deck

My tournaments are going alright.

Anyone else almost never come in 2nd? If I make the finals, I win the vast majority of the time. Today is right in line with how my win distribution usually goes:

1st place: 4 times
2nd place: 1 time
3rd/4th place: 3 times
5th-8th place: lel

I feel like it should be a nice pyramid, but it isn't. My overall trophies is pretty much the same thing x5-10

The thing that sucks about Aurorus is that you have to have a water energy on your water Pokemon to gain it's benefits. It's not a huge deal but it does slow down a deck's momentum.

Basic Pokemon include 90% of EXes which don't evolve from anything and are strong 110-180 HP Pokemon usually with pretty great attacks and all Legendaries.

This thing's just immune to attacks from them, ala Wonder guard. It's like using shedinja against a Kyogre.

Except it isn't. With the right counters it's fairly easy to play around actually, but yeah, he is solid against Virizion/Genesect (even if you run Raichu) and he has practically made "speed" Yveltal and pure plasma (without eeveelutions) unplayable. Personally I'm more worried about Combustion Blast-Charizard which he is often paired with.

Well, there are/were some basics that can damage it. But it's still pretty damn good because those attacks aren't the attack you want that Pokemon to be using most of the time.

I think they're generally called Shredders after the Rayquaza that is about to get rotated out's attack that ignores it.

Mostly because it gives you an actual pool of trainer cards and isn't nearly as shitty as most of the other ones leaving just like, 3 copies of Meowth or something in there to never evolve or use because no Persian.

Shred Rayquaza was reprinted in LTR, the bigger loss is Bouffalant DRX (which was not reprinted).

I was using the Worlds 2013 sleeves, flip-coin, and deckbox with the deck I was running. Before he posted the poser comment he asked me if I was a Worlds Champion.

Ah, then Pokemon already follows it to a certain extent (notice that all of the recent sets introduce a new card mechanic in their February sets and how they usually last until November sets?).

But from what I'm noticing, TPCi tends to rotate cards depending on what cards are in the current booster sets. Back when the 2013-2014 season was announced, we were moving from BLW-on to NXD-on, but some key basic cards (Switch and Potion) from BLW were reprinted in BCR (which was released back in November 2012) at the time so rotating to NXD-on was fine.

Now have a look at the current rotation, we're rotation from NXD-on to BCR-on, but we don't have those key basic cards in any of the newer printed booster sets. Another thing to remember is that BCR is considered BW2's "base" set.

Hence the reason WHY I mentioned booster sets in the first place. Not everyone in the competitive scene is going to buy a starter deck to get cards like Switch, but they will buy booster packs.

I remember seeing someone commenting that the BCR-on was obvious because BCR's Japanese equivalent had cards that were distributed in both BCR and PLS. Skyla was in BCR but Virbank City Gym was in PLS. So the argument was it had to be BCR-on or XY-on (hah) because it would have screwed up the Japanese sets.

Remember that Pokemon is, at its core, is a children's franchise. Kids and young adults (well, the ones that make up the Masters category at least) have more free time during the summertime than winter.

Well, for Pokemon, booster boxes usually have a guaranteed number of chase rares in a box (or chance to pull for SRs like gold-bordered Mega EXs). For the Elite Trainer Boxes, it's mostly due to the secondary items like the dice, sleeves, and Energy.

Ah, then it was probably to make the equal cost-wise. When FLF was released, the gold-bordered Mega Charizard EX (Charizard X) had an asking price between 60-90 bucks while the regular version had an asking price around 30 bucks.

One of the things we have to remember is that SRs like Shiny Pokemon and gold Megas aren't guaranteed in a single booster box, you'd have to buy at least three to make it a 100% chance.

Nah, Yugioh is actually pretty easy compared to every other card game, since it lacks a resource system, so you can just shit everything you have from your hand and only care about what's on the field, what's in your hand, and maybe what's in the grave depending on what you're playing.

Yugioh is one of the easiest card games out there.

Pokemon's like luck-based MTG where you're attaching lands to the creatures instead.

The online program on Pokemon.com is enough to tell you like everything. Going through a game or something, you should be able to figure it out.

Mostly the staples would be generic draw cards like N, Colress, and Juniper and searching stuff like Ultra Ball or Skyla. Most decks are built off techs and shit so they'll all be a bit different. A lot of decks opt to run Lysandre, but numbers vary.

Muscle Band fits on just about anything to shove out that extra damage, but without using EXes yourself, you could opt for Silver Bangles which do an extra 30 damage on targets that matter more.

Depending on the Pokemon you use, things like Double Colorless Energy see a fuckton of use.

Most stuff for consideration will be "depending on the Pokemon you use" though. A lot of decks just operate off different card pools.

I have friends who refuse to use Juniper/Sycamore, Ultra Ball, and Computer Search because they hate the idea of discarding their hands. They also run 2 Super Rods in all of their decks. It's a victini from a couple different sets that has the Victory star ability, letting you reflip coin flips once per turn so long as it's on your bench or in play

Most recently got reprinted in Legendary Treasures so still legal.

It might, but it's losing a lot of support (mostly in the form of Tropical Beach, Level Ball, and Super Rod) come the 2014-2015 season.

You're better off running Miltank despite the Fighting weakness, Mew EX is easily revenge-killed by a lot of stuff in this format AND the next. Don't forget that Mew EX was only widely used in Accelgor/Gothitelle decks and for good reason.

Nope, so you have to work with 4 rainbows and 4 DCEs. Not even sure what deck apart from FairyBox bothers to recycle special energy, and those use a Thundurus EX and a Genesect EX by default. Although don't worry, you don't have it worse than Full Plasma, because Full Plasma dies as soon as rotation hits.

I think I've lost to 2 decks. I've lost to Pyroar who hit their flips on catcher, and I've lost to Aromatisse using Thundurus.

I literally just won a game where I got no supporters, just energy, my one Darkrai, lasers/virbank, and my single Sableye. The coin flips on sleep were pretty much the only reason I won. Stupid fucking deck.

You find a new deck to run, most competitive Tool Drop players dropped it the minute Startling Megaphone was released.

Diggersby XY was a potential candidate for Yveltal/Stuff decks once Sableye rotates out, but 99% of the cards in Furious Fists (and the combos born from it) killed it before it had the chance to work.

The only Charizard that's worth a lot of packs is the one with Combustion Blast (6 packs) and Full-Art Lysandre (6 packs).

I'm more for having things I want rather than keeping things to trade. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have opened the two flashfire and two XY packs I put codes for in the first place.

I need to stop opening XY though, energies always take up all my commons so I never pull things like muscle bands.

Alright, that boosts your total to 13 packs. But if you're trying to get Furious Fists packs with 'em, it be best to trade them for non-XY packs and wait 2-3 weeks after the TCGO adds them to the client.

People tend to forget that you can buy the code cards online (from resellers like Troll and Toad, of course) and try to hoard them during that time.

I mostly recommend it because the trainer card lineup is great compared to other decks that load you up with a bunch of Pokemon you'd never need, half those being lines that don't even end with their full evolutions, and like 20 basic energies

Otherwise, Resiliant Life with a few modifications if you can buy singles (like upping the number of Aromatisse and maybe getting an Yveltal-EX tin) is a pretty decent starter deck. The Thunder one from Flashfire didn't make me want to kill myself since you have at least two Pokemon who can do at least 120+ damage per turn.

Landorus decks are going to be the new "go-to" deck come Furious Fists' release and when we rotate to BCR-on. Also, we're losing Beach come September so Stage 2 decks in general are going to have a hard time setting up.

I suppose you could run Mountain Ring (prevents damage to both Benches from attacks) or Shadow Circle (Pokemon that have Dark Energy attached to them have no weakness), but a Hammerhead that's strengthened by Strong Energy, Muscle Band, and LaserBank is no laughing matter.

For the most part, the same it's been since Nationals. The only cards it's losing to the rotation are Le Parfum Roserade and Skyarrow Bridge (Drifblim DRX survives thanks to BW 64).

hantom Forces hits store shelves on November 5th and will will feature over 110 cards. The translation is really early. Phantom Gate releases in October in Japan and we're getting it in November. Normally it takes three months after the Japanese release (Fists was released in Japan on June 14, we're getting it August 13), but it's still on track for English sets (once every three-to-four months). I guess the delay between Fists and Gate in Japan allowed them to accelerate localization. Hopefully this means a better turnaround on sets in the future.

Why is Dendenne good again?

Is it just because of Entrainment? If so it feels like Kangaskhan has more health and can actually attack.
Or Emolga from Legendary Treasures looks cuter and has a better weakness/resistance with 0 retreat cost.

Unless you're using it for the attack, in which case you'd need a Yveltal stacked with 5 energy to even revenge kill it and you have to have electric energy in the deck. Raichu seems like a better option for when you can't set up a garbodor before Pyroar gets out

I feel like I'm missing something here.

I'm just not seeing the merit of running fighting/Electric energy when Raichu is just double colorless so you can just run pure fighting with those and get over Pyroar without Garbodor.

It can't have anything to do with deck space because at that point you're running either extra lightning energy or extra rainbow energies just for Dendenne and those could've just been Pikachus and DCE

For Dedenne to OHKO Yveltal-EX only 3 energy with Silver Bangle. Or with Muscle Band and LaserBank - which the deck runs by default. Oh and it's a Basic that searches for other basics.
