It takes a bit of stretching but so far nothing directly contradicts it anyhow as of yet.

dragon - charizard (western dragon, but still a dragon)
rat - cyndaquil (it's an echidna, but it's classed as the fire mouse pokemon)
rooster - torchic (the first literal one)
monkey - chimchar (a chimp, but still a primate)
boar - tepig (also literal)
dog - fennekin (a fox, but foxes are canids, and less of a stretch than cyndaquil. technically just as much of a stretch as chimchar)
