Because the inanimate objects they're based off of still exist within the pokemon universe. Pokemon as a whole take the place of animals in the series specific universe. Theres no elephants in pokemon but there are donphans, conversely there are both keychains and klefkis.

This is the pretty much only case of it actually bugging me. I'm fine with swords, garbage bags, key rings, washing machines, a snowflake, and whatever else being Pokemon. But this ice cream line is just the dumbest shit. They did not even try to make it look interesting either.

Well, that's what they literally are. The only problem I have with that line is Vanilluxe, I mean, Vanillite is cute as fuck, vanillish looks stupid but ok, but vanilluxe is just lazy, just like magneton and dugtrio. If it ever gets a mega they better not add an extra head to it.

I feel like the concept of Pokemon based on inanimate objects is unappealing to a lot of people but then the individual executions wind up being so good that no one really complains. You get hate for the idea but not so often for the individual Pokemon. Except maybe like, Garbador and Vanillite. Neither of which I dislike.

When I first saw the BW leak of Gear, I had such high hopes.

I find the NOT ONE BUT TWO evolutions quite disappointing, though.

Same thing with the Vanilluxe line. I think two would've been fine.

On-topic: I like most of the inanimate Pokémon just fine.

No i think you're spot on. It's easy to look at an animal or other living thing and think about how to make it "pokemon-y"with the hardest part usually being the typing. However I find it harder to look at an object and find someway to bring it to life and then make it a pokemon. However everyone is different so might be just me

Can someone convince me why I should love Chandelure? I want to but I'm just kind of on the fence about it.

I also heard it has some neat animations, like it snickers or something, expressive animations in battle/amie/idling.

I can also say it's easy to look at a object and slap a face on it (Vanilluxe, Voltorb, Honedge...)

It may be however harder to find an animal and find a way to make it pokemon-ish without just making it cartoonish

Hey man if you like it you like it. There's no convincing you otherwise.

What drew me to it was its unique typing and xboxhueg special attack. I like all Pokemon that have a unique typing and love the Pokemon based off of objects. Chandelure just happened to hit every niche I love about Pokemon.

There is convincing though. By that I mean maybe someone is seeing something I'm not seeing. Pokemon designs can grow on you, especially if you change your initial perspective on them. I can't think of any examples immediately but there have been several Pokemon I was indifferent towards that I grew to like because of their depiction somewhere else or how someone described them.

That's the part that really pissed me off about the Fennekin reveal.

I've been seeing so many complaints about the various inanimate object mons like litwick and trubbish that I really, really liked from 5th gen, another fox-mon shows up, even sharing vulpix's fire type and they're all just falling over each other about how it was the best starter ever.

It just made it all the more sweeter when greninja became top starter and Delphox got shat on constantly.

I always saw it as Klefki simply looking entirely different before. I mean, stuff like saying Relicanth not changing in a million years, or Amoonguss having a Pokeball design points to the fact that Darwinian evolution occurs in the Pokemon world as well.

Because of that, Amoonguss evolved towards having a Pokeball to attract others once Pokeballs were created. Similarly, Klefki may have also evolved once keys were invented.

With Klefki, I see his original appearance as how he is when he dies, and his keys fall out in the death animation, how he's just there with two arms. Now he can horde keys like the hording autistic motherfucker he is.
