Here's an idea, for Gen 7 skip the obligatory "technical upgrade" and keep it on the 3DS with maybe some model changes/slight updates/fixes.

Do a full rework of the what learns what and increase the movelist to 6. I think this would actually make the game much more interesting.

If Pokemon had a lot more signature moves and exclusive moves it would create a much more diverse and varied metagame.

Better yet, erase the HM concept. I mean, you don't see a Noctowl not flying before you teach fly to it...

Pokemon should automatically learn available HM moves on their own, like Tropius already know cut / fly / strength / rock smash outside of its 4 moves

It would be nothing but hyper offense. Literally the only thing keeping things like Mega Bride, Mega Bug O, and Mega Vishnu in check is having to choose a coverage move. Drop that and the competitive scene turns into an all-out shitfest of heavy hitters trying to nuke each other into oblivion as quickly as possible, maybe with a Baton Pass/SD/Iron Defense/Protect/Spikes/Toxic Spikes Scolipede on the side.

Honestly if it was 5 instead of 6 I could actually see that not being that bad. I'd add a new layer in that more pokemon would have coverage/counter moves. I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of Defend option or mini protect that reduces damage as a move that pokemon always have access to either.
