just hold the d pad after aligning and you'll only touch it if you smash into the wall outside of town and shift. Stopping slightly before and holding the back button solves that

I just align under the sign at the cave entrance - so that you're directly underneath it, as close as you can get to it. Then hold right on the D-pad, left when you hit the wall on the other side of town. You bypass the fountain and niggery bit in OP pic.
