My problem with mega evos is the pokemon that have them are now seen as useless (for the most part) in their standard form. If you see a lucario in the anime or in a casual battle, it's GOING to mega evolve.

Not always the case. Tyranitar, Garchomp, Gengar, Lucario, and Scizor are still good in and out of their Megas. Alakazam is arguably better regularly than its Mega...

mega gengar is a straight upgrade (except for the erf-weakness), and pretty much one of the best megas overall. Still agree on regular-gengar being usable though

>Scizor Agreed again, but in this case it's more about haviung a free mega slot or not. Mega scizor is similar in attacking power to life orb scizor, which would make it pointless on a team that already has a potential mega.

Yes, but back in Gen. 4, people thought Game Freak was running out of ideas due to the amount of evolutions to old Pokemon that were introuduced. So GF decided to create a batch of Pokemon with no connections to previous ones for Gen. 5. But maybe it was just a coicidence and the people complaining were just a vocal minority. We'll never know.

Not really, a lot of people disliked them because a lot of them didn't look like evos but rather completely different pokemon. People eventually got used to them though.
If anything it's the people that liked them that were the minority.
