quick question about breeding prior to VI

Was it really time consuming compared to the japanese ditto cheapness of VI? I'm considering getting BW2 for the Move Tutors, plus I was told they were leagues above XY story-wise.

Not time consuming so much that you basically had to either RNG abuse or settle for only 3 or 4 perfect IVs. Expecting to get a flawless Pokémon was completely unreasonable. With perfect parents you would still have to breed several thousand eggs on average to get a perfect baby.

yeah, what anon said. it was ridiculously hard to get a perfect pokemon, and practically impossible.

BW and BW2 actually have a story that they put time into, unlike every single other pokemon game. it's not that great, but it's good for pokemon standards. and it is leagues above XY.

the key is that you would never inherit more than 3 stats from the parents. so if you breed two 6iv pokemon in gen5 you would end up with three perfect ivs and three random ivs. if you want to get a pokemon with 5 perfect ivs, even using two parents with 6ivs, your chances are about one in a thousand.
