I think it's because a Mega evolution isn't meant to be a full evolution by any means. If Metagross had a hypothetical full evolution, it would be two Metagross in one. Since it's a Mega, which is kind of like a "half" evolution, then a Metagross with Metang makes sense.

i started crying during the mr briney section. i remember when that game came out, i wasn't that old. i had no friends, and all i had to keep me company was my GBA and some shitty shovelware games and the occasional SNES remake (DKC for example). Then, when Sapphire came out, I finally felt like there were creatures that were my friends that would do whatever they could for me. When the Boat section happened and I was heading to dewford, I felt genuinely in awe from how amazing the game looked. I ended the game with 6 level 100 pokemon, and I still have them to this day in my X and Y.

The place where true remaking of a track benefits is in the calmer, more melodic pieces.

You can see that in the music for Vermillion City. Much better in HGSS.

However, we're seeing snippets of the most intense themes: battle themes (besides Briney's Ship).

Full Orchestration is so overrated. The simple approach Game Freak is going for in ORAS is going to be such a refreshing break from all of that orchestration fetish in the industry.

By all means, they are a Ground team, not a Fire team like most people picture them. Camerupt, and by extension, M-Camerupt, are Ground types that fit the thematic of Team Magma perfectly. Mega Houndoom is an outright Fire type that has no place in that team.

I'd take leaving the music as closely related to the original as possible any day over oversaturating it with the intention of making it "modern" and ending up turning it into a mess.

What I was afraid of the most was the remaking of the music would get to their head and they would add unnecessary things to it. I like what GF is doing here, they've remade the music but are trying not to get carried away with it.

That's what I figured, but at the same moment Megagross outsped they were talking about the speed increase, acting all shocked, I figured it was because Gross outsped, but it hit me that that shouldn't happen because upon mega evolving the speed stat doesn't change until the next turn, and no way in hell is gross faster than sceptile.

So I hear people bitching about the music in Gen 6 is a whole. Does it not seem like it takes GF a little while to properly master the format of the music they can work with? They were working with midi for the longest time due to limitations, but they FINALLY have access to a wider spectrum of realistic sounding instruments. By the time they had hit gen 5, they had perfected the art of midi and were able to make some impressive shit with what they had.

But now they have so much more to work with. So, chances are, it'll take a little bit of time before they can make some cooler and more original sounding stuff with everything they have now.

Of course, this is all just hypothetical. I could be horribly wrong and we'll likely never get amazing sounding Pokemon music again. But I seriously doubt that.

The MIDI composition and the instruments in BW2 were incredible. It could literally deliver all kinds of music.

The thing is, though, I don't think it's as drastically different as you're making it out to be. I think they just shifted to a new set of instruments and it's just not as pleasant. I remember playing through DPPt and I liked the music there, and nothing grips me the same way in XY.
