So I skipped Gen 5, and my local gamestoop has both Black, White, and Black 2 if I recall

Should I skip the first ones and just play 2? Do I actually miss anything?

Gen 5 pretty much just stands on its story, so yeah you'll miss a lot by skipping ahead. I would suggest playing BlazeBlack/VoltWhite and BB/VW 2 just because the gameplay in the base games is boring though.

If you're gonna buy Black 2, you may as well buy Black, because the story is what sets them apart, and you won't understand half of what's going on in Black 2 without knowing Black.

You easily CAN play it and just ignore the story, but in that case, I personally would just not play Black 2 at all.
