With that ability and move pool that sets it apart from the other two starters I would think it would be a possibility.
Then it was in smash before they knew it was popular, I highly doubt they're not planing for it to be the next Charizard/Lucario. Luckily for them it didn't flop like Zoroark.
You've enable GF to make another Lucario, congratulations.

As proven by Zoroark, popularity can't be forced. No matter how much you shove something down people's throats, you can't force them to like it. Popularity has to come naturally.

So, whether Greninja succeeds or not depends entirely on whether people like it or not.

Given that people do seem to like it, it very well could become another Lucario/Charizard.
