What is the Game Freak Logo supposed to be?

I'm assuming that it's a standing stone that has crashed into the ground as a meteorite?

I'm assuming this based off of the animation in which a star shoots downwards.
Additionally moonstones and other "it came from space" ideas are tossed around regularly.

I suppose they are trying to explain that Game Freak games are out of this world, or have that special something that make them unlike anything else on this planet.

Thoughts? Has there ever been a Japanese interview on this?
