With every Pokemon gen (aside from 1 and 2) there has been a leap in graphics enough to differentiate them. I'm worried about Gen 7 because now that Pokemon's in 3D and Gamefreak sucks at 3D games it'll move nowhere in terms of looks and remain in this pool of mediocrity until Nintendo's next handheld.
Anybody else feel this way?

Since we've hoped on the 3D train maybe the guys who do the Wii games will do the 3D for the next gen? I can't see Nintendo benching the 3DS so soon.

I liked the 3D a lot, the battles needed to be 3D ever since Stadium. My only complaint was the shitty perspective changes that made your view very small compared to previous games. If the perspective was large, consistent, and at a less acute angle (such as Colosseum), I think they would be entirely better than the 2D perspective.

Either way, I love pokemon and I'm not gonna let the graphics ruin the gameplay or stop me from playing

It's not the 3DS hardware though, GF is just incompetent. X/Y lagged while showing 2 idle animations at once with the 3D off, yet Smash Bros runs at a constant 60fps even with all the crazy shit going on.

I hope that GF adds more animations to every Pokémon, though.

The over world and human characters have lots of room to improve. I'm sure Gen VII will look lots better.

I thought this thread was talking about the actual 3D crap that you have to deal with on the 3DS. The animation's pretty good on a 2DS, so either they're graphically identical, just without the gimmick, or X/Y on the 3DS looks even better. Either way, sounds like a good thing.

You don't understand. The lag is present on both 2ds and 3ds because the hardwares are the same in both, just that the 2ds is even cheaper.
What I am trying to say is that the 2ds is a pathetic excuse of a system that Nintendo shat out to fool gullible idiots into buying thinking its cheaper and better for people with depth perception.

If anything, that's what they'll do. Animations will be improved with each generation, more dynamic and less bland animations. Perhaps even more unique animations for certain moves.

Is there really that much of a difference between the fourth and fifth gens? Ooo, I made the sprites into puppets now, so now they have better animations, and the world is a real 3D space instead of being a flat map given the illusion of being 3D. These are the only differences, other than that, they look fairly the same.

Technically, part of the improvement that happened in gen 2 already happened in Yellow when they fixed the sprites. Gen 2 just went all the way and fixed the back sprites, too. Other than that, the only difference is the range of color, since it was made with the GBC in mind.

The E3 build can't even run at 30 FPS constantly.
There needs to be a lot of Sakurai magic for it to maintain 60 GPS.

I partially agree, seeing that SSB has good gfx but you have to take into account that fighting games usually look better and run smoother than other games because they don't have an entire fucking region and lots of data to load unlike Pokemon, for example. Instead, they load just some models, a background and that's it. I assume that loading over 400 Pokemon must take a toll on the processor.
